DVD burning

I have direct TV with a DVR and I have heard people talking about linking your PC to the DVR to record onto DVD using the DVD burner on the PC rather than a DVD recorder. Anyone know IF this can be done cheaply or not?? If so what do I need??

Couldn't find any real information there. In the forums there was a guy who asked the same question back in November and no one ever replied. I did see a good article on how to make your own DVR which I may very well look into doing. In the end it looks like the cheapest route will be to just buy a DVD recorder and do it that way.

you best bet there is to burn them onto DVD. From what I can tell Tivo and other DVRs don't "talk" well to computers. It may be possible but I would think it too troublesome to be worth the effort.
