New vid card :)
Well this GTS has served me well, but I just found a sweet deal on some ati cards(compared to the normal retailers at least), so here are the options,(keep in mind my psu is 550w and my system is oced...), 398$ for two 3870, $315 for two 3850s(256mb), orrrrr $500 for one 3870x2?? I game @ 1440x990, how much can I expect the price to drop in the next few weeks $20-30?
how is tiger direct still alive, those bastards charge insane prices? who buys from them..

I know what you mean, I rarely, if ever buy from Tiger Direct.
Re: New vid card :)
Personally I wouldn't think it worth moving up from a 8800GTS (even the old skool 640 ones) to something still this gen.
Realistically, what games are there that are crippling your rig to an unplayable state?
On the other hand, if you can justify burning the cash (and living with your decision when the 9000/4000 series come out) then you may as well go for it.

Re: New vid card :)
Anyone in the know wouldn't want to buy the 640 over the G92 512 variant now anyway. But fortunately for you nvidia hasn't made their naming scheme transparent, and people still think that the more graphics memory a card has the better it must be.
Selling the gts card, then buying a newer card to sell when the next gen comes out is still going to hit your wallet hard, you just probably won't feel it all at the same time.
I can see why you would want to try and sell it now, but either way you are going to lose money from depreciation, its a sad fact of life for users with the upgrade bug.

Its a hard lesson for some to learn, but I was always taught to appreciate what you have, especially if its better than what most other people have.
The grass is always greener on the other side, especially in the computer field. Trying to keep ahead of technology just keeps you broke and unhappy.

Or get a job where corporations just send you video cards for free, just to have you write something about it!
If I were you, I would hold out for a while. Don't spend $500 on a videocard that will be obsolete in 2 months. You will be regretting it later. (like when I bought my 7600gt and the 8600gt came out 2 weeks later for just a little bit more money.)

Re: New vid card :)
If only I had saved up and gotten a 8800gtx when it first came out, over 1 year and its till goin strong, i bought 1600pro crossfire for like 300, then sold them for about 85bucks 2 +1/2 months later and picked up an 8800gts. I guess I should waitvicaphit wrote:Or get a job where corporations just send you video cards for free, just to have you write something about it!

I bought just over $70K from them in 2007.
And IMHO ...
Stay away from CrossFire.
Ain't worth the price you'll pay.
And from what I've read all over the net while going thru my CrossFire letdown ... SLI isn't gonna be much better, if any.

Ahhhh don't support tigerdirect, if you don't buy from them it will force them to bring their horrible prices down! And are you joking, crossfire with 3850/70 is amazing! sometimes over 85%! ( I even saw one bench that showed over 100% from LR)DL126 wrote:Guess I'm the only dummy here ..??maj0r_pawnage wrote:how is tiger direct still alive, those bastards charge insane prices? who buys from them..![]()

If you don't mind playing the waiting game, hold on to your GTS for now, it's not that bad.

Tigerdirect has served me well when I've used it. Although I do like newegg better.
Re: New vid card :)
Once or twice a year I get a non-rebate special from Tiger, but I always feel guilty for cheating on the Egg afterward
