I have been seeing a lot of hype lately about the "new" dx10.1 Anyone know if this is an issue when looking to purchase new Video equiptment? I ran an X850 ATI forever and loved the card but the new games that are out needed a card that would support dx9c and unfortunatly it did not. I have setup a dual boot with XP and Vista with a HD2900 ATI and run some games in Vista and see them as looking better there than in the XP enviroment. Now I see there is this DX10.1 and wonder if it is only a matter of time now before I will have to move on again. Anyone got a good grasp of this new dx and what it means to gamers and their games down the road???

DX10.1
Re: DX10.1
You pretty much answered your own question when you said this:
It'll be a while before DX10.1 becomes the standard in games as there aren't even alot of DX10 games so I wouldn't worry about DX10.1.
Plain and simple if you want to run a game in DX10.1 that supports DX10.1, you'll need a DX10.1 video card however it a game supports DX9,DX10, and DX10.1 then you don't necessarily need a DX10.1 video card.charlie264 wrote:I ran an X850 ATI forever and loved the card but the new games that are out needed a card that would support dx9c and unfortunatly it did not.

Re: DX10.1
The HD3000 series are the only cards that support upto DX10.1 but even so that doesn't really matter since there aren't any DX10.1 games available.bobletman wrote:Do ytou know what cards support DX10.1?

Re: DX10.1
actually you old ati x850 does support DX9c but not DX10 id not bother with worrying about DX10.1 at the moment as said above there are no games or apps that use it and all it really does is make some parts of DX10 non optional if i were you I'd just do crossfire with another HD2900

Re: DX10.1
I remember now what it was withthe X850 it was the shader model 3.0 support that is was lacking. There was a lot of talk about this when it first came to be. Funny it was for this game that my kids had to have Spiderman3 and once I upgraded everyone to be able to play it, they did not like the game. Worked out in the end with COD4, Airborne,Crysis and Bioshock... at least now they are using the cards.
Found a GREAT deal on a HD3870 for $209 with free shipping!! anyone interested here is a link:

Re: DX10.1
Supposedly the new Geforce 9 series cards are suppose to support the 4.1 Pixel and Vertex shader as well as the DX10.1. The HD3000 by ATI does support it right now already. I woudn't get hyped up a lot by this though, many games won't come out with DX10.1 for a while. DX10 is barely starting to come into the real world.

Re: DX10.1
If you just want dx 10... this nvidia 8800 gt will beat that 3870

it might be worth it if you got a few extra bucks, lol

Plz, have mercy, I know nothing about (modern) computing!!!
Re: DX10.1
It's an excellent card, although it won't beet the HD3870x2. Two of those GTs would beat it though.
