i have been working on my moms computer for a very long time now, we decided to let a friend work on it once and well she ended up erasing the entire computer. i think even the recovery partition. there is nothing left on this computer that even identafies it as hp. i orderd a set of recovery disk from hp. but the computer says that they are the wrong ones'
I have contacted hp and confirmed that they are the right ones for this system. It is a Pavilion a705w. does anyone out there know of anything else i can do to recover this thing? i have tryed going through BIOS and other booting, but nothing works. resetting the cables and all. someone please help!
Hp Recovery. system will not take recovery disk
Re: Hp Recovery. system will not take recovery disk
First you need to find out if your friend killed the recovery partition. This is a hidden partition, you won't see it normally. What you need is something like GParted boot disk, this will allow you to see all the partitions on the drive, hidden or not. If the partition is gone you can run the boot recovery program (F10 or something like that at start up) all day long an it will do no good because the area its trying to get to isn't there. Also have heard some folks having luck booting to a BartPE disk and starting the recovery from there, I've never tried this myself but at this point it may be worth a shot.
Now the CDs they sent you should work no whether or not the recovery partition it there, as those are made for when the whole drive dies. The motherboard has not been replaced in the machine has it? if it has then the disks wont work as they are looking for HP hardware, if it sees anything else you will get an invalid hardware error.
aside from that drop another 80 on the OEM windows installer disk, or borrow a friends of the same version and try to load it with your CD key on the side of the box and hope its not one of the versions locked to the custom install disks that HP/Dell/Sony/ect.. have been known to use.
And this is why I hate prebuilt systems with this dumb a** recovery system s***.
