So A Computer at work here is typing at least 1 sometimes 2 and other times indefinite amounts of i's whenever you click into an area to type. I think there is just pressure on the key that is causing it. I'm not sure though. I'm curious as to what you guys think. This is on a laptop, and the key doesn't come off as easily as a regular desktop key, also they are much more tedious to get back on correctly. So What are your ideas before I spend like 3 hours just trying to put the key back one when I get it off?

Well, probably the easiest way to see if it's a H/W or S/W issue is drop a Knoppix (or DOS or something other than Windows you can type with) disk in and see if it still types the "I". If so, it's probably an issue with the key.

good idea, popped in a kubuntu live cd had it still typing I's, so I shut it down pulled off the key, and it still did it for a bit then I fiddled with the actual piece under the key and it stopped. Tomorrow I'll deal with putting the key back on. It's just too tedious for me to do in the next 20 min. Hopefully it doesn't resume when I put the key back on it.

I take it that the I's have it.

Anyways, would it have been easier to swap out the keyboard with another rather than change the OS? Or does the CD boot faster?

USB and PS2 basic Keyboards run about $12 at Big Lots in town. They are a better deal over Wal*Mart.

This is a laptop keyboard, I just booted a live cd to check if it was still throwing i's around. IT was. I didn't have any spare laptop keyboards. It still would have kept typing i's if I plugged in a keyboard externally to it, as the main keyboard would still work.
