Budget PSU
Hey everyone im tired of doing everything on my laptop I want my baby back up and running so I need a new PSU. As a college student my budget is limited. I don't have a whiz bang SLi setup or anything, my specs are on my sig, anyone have any first hand exerience with something that would work for me and not break the bank? I was looking at this one but I try not to go strictly by what the morons people say on Newegg. Any ideas?
Re: Budget PSU
You know most of us would quickly recommend Corsair PSU's, but for a more comprehensive list, check HERE.
It may not be the most up to date, but its a good start...just avoid anything Tier 3 or less.

Re: Budget PSU
well i went with an Ultra X-pro Lifetime series 650w PSU, X-Pro's are listed as Tier 2 on that link you posted and the fact that it has a lifetime warranty leads me to believe its a quality PSU. I know Ultra's PSU's either seem to be dangerous or rock solid depending on the model but the one review I found over at Hardware Canucks seems promising, its a clean looking unit on the inside with industrial grade capacitors rated for 105c. Their the same brand caps that are in the PCP&C 850W Turbo Cool.
Overall I snagged it for 58 bucks on Amazon, there were only two left! Hopefully itll be a good PSU I guess we will see!

Keep us up to date, it's not a bad price. Wonder who's making them.

For sure, that is a good price!dicecca112 wrote: Keep us up to date, it's not a bad price. Wonder who's making them.

The information on the PSU you purchased from Amazon.com and the information on the review you provided do not seem to match. The wattage and even the model numbers differ. I didn't find any reviews for the LSP650.

Re: Budget PSU
yeah i noticed that after i posted it, I didn't get much sleep the night before and was kinda dragging lol
heres a review for the non lifetime series 600w X-pro
its the closest product I could find, and im sorry to say that i wont be cracking open this psu to check out the caps and such since I cant afford to void that lifetime warranty by breaking the sticker
Also I just shot this email over to Ultra:

Re: Budget PSU
I sent this to Jan:
I got this from "Keith" today:Jan,
Thank you for your timely reply, If I decide to purchase this unit I would hate to void that lifetime warranty by opening the unit to see what brand of capacitors this unit uses. I have friends, and potential customers for your company, on a forum who find this information to be useful as do I. As an electrical engineer myself (LIAR!!!) I do know that using quality capacitors is a good indicator of the quality of a power supply unit and im sure your company knows that as well. If you are unable to find out or forward me to someone who can answer my inquiry could I atleast have the UL number of the LS650 Lifetime series PSU, it should be located on the sticker on the face of the unit that gives the units specs. Thanks again for all your help Jan again im a big fan of Ultra (AGAIN LIAR!!!)and im sure you can at least point me in the right direction. Thank you!
Keith seems more helpful that Jan, so maybe ill get some answers before the PSU actually gets here lolTrey,
I have forwarded your e-mail to our issues coordinator for further action. If he doesn't have the information you need, he will likely contact our engineering department to get it. I cannot promise that our engineering department will release this information, however.
Thank you for contacting us. If you have any further inquiries please reply to this email.
Sincerely,
Keith

Re: Budget PSU
Well still no answer from Ultra but I got the actual unit and im gonna take pics but this thing is nice! Its got a matte black finish, its got great ventilation and a big 135mm fan on the bottom. I can see thru the mesh that it uses Teapo Caps which aren't the best but certainly not the worst. In fact PC Power and Cooling used them in their 850w Turbo Cool if I remember right. The cables are sleeved completely into the casing and there are plenty of connectors. Im gonna see if I can borrow Dragon Coolers camera tonight and snap some pics.
