Best gaming 22" 1080p monitor on a budget?

Im looking for a new LCD monitor for my build, and am a little confused with all the different numbers and words they throw at me. I want it to be 22", support full HD(1080p), and be under $400. An HDMI port would be an added bonus, but I already have a DVI-D to HDMI adapter so it's not necessary. The cheapest I know of is the Sceptre X22WG that's around $250, but dozens of people say the DVI connection dies within the first couple weeks or so. I have found other brands with HDMI ports, but only supporting 720p. I want to connect it to a PS3 via HDMI, so does the DVI port have to be HDCP compliant? Where do I find another monitor that supports 1080p under $400?
My internal specs:
Mobo: XFX nforce 630i
CPU: Intel E4500
Ram: Patriot 2GB (2X1GB)
VGA: XFX 9600GT XXX edition
HDD: WD 150Gb 7200RPM

Honestly you won't find any 22 inchers with that resolution..ill even throw in that all i know of just for hope...but you will need to go up to 24 inches to get that full hd support..newegg.com has a few 24 inch 1920*1200 monitors under $400..KDS and BenQ to name 2 I saw..as far as hdmi support...you probably wont find any under $400...and yes the dvi has to be HDCP compliant..but check newegg.com...theres some other places but thats one i have found a few.. i looked at that sceptre monitor u mentioned tho...how it could do 1080P on a monitor thats only 1680*1050 resolution ill never know so i wouldnt go for that..in my opinion of course..need 1920*1080 or 1920*1200 for full hd

Actually there are 22" monitors that "support" 1080p. Basically, the monitor accepts 1080p, and scales it down to its native resolution. Such a monitor is perfect for a gaming system (xbox360, ps3, etc.) that can put out a 1080p signal.
I know of the Sceptre you mentioned and I heard of an LG 22" that support 1080p.

24" is the only 1080p monitors. The downscaling really doesn't do much aside from make it 1680 x 1050. the extra 2 inches is sexy I'd go 24"

That makes sense, thank you. So does that mean that all the other 22" monitors that don't support 1080p just reject the signal altogether?

DONT GET SCEPTRE haha I've seen them in person they look horrid. LG was alright so you are safe there.
I have an ACER x221w it's VERY VERY NICE. I don't regret it at all. The Samsungs were the only rival in the comparisons.
I'd much rather get a good monitor that doesn't boast about what it accepts because honestly most things on consoles are NOT in hd to begin with they are upscaled. Meaning if you game at 720p its the same either way.
Monitors that boast big numbers don't really look as good as the better named ones.

If you don't do graphics work, hanns-g is a nice, cheap, brand. I've got a 22" and it looks really good BUT the colors aren't spot-on. They look just fine, only slightly off, but for graphics design it really throws you off. I love it to death for gaming though. It is a 1680x1050 with full 1080p support though.

I love my Acer 22" LCD, but I have not been able to confirm whether or not it supports 1080p. It looks great at 1680x1050, but I have not tried to connect it to my xbox360 to test it.
As for your question above, I honestly don't know.

I picked up a Westinghouse 24" a couple of months ago for right at $300. It has HDMI, D-Sub, and Component inputs. My only gripe with it is when using the HDMI and the computer sleeps, then the screen goes blue. It works fine with D-Sub, just kinda squirrely with HDMI. Anyway, it's nothing too fancy. 1900x1200 with 8ms. WoW looks gorgeous and I haven't thrown HL2 at it yet. I can't remember the model # I have. Will try to remember to look it up and add to the post tonight.
[Edit: I think it's the L2410NM]

I have an Acer AL2216W I just bought for $220. You can't find it for that price anymore as I used a gift certificate on Amazon (for $10) and I had an Amazon Prime trial for free two day shipping. Further, Amazon has jacked up their price.
HOWEVER, the AL2216W is a very solid monitor; I love it and would buy another if I had the money and desk space. It does not do 1080p though, and since it is so bare-bones I doubt it even has internal scaling...but I don't know that for a fact.

My wife bought that monitor for me for Christmas and I love it. (Course I was coming off using a 1999 17" CRT for the last 9 years.) I dont notice any color problems, but I dont do graphics either.

It's not far off, in fact most monitors aren't 'true' but I just finished designing a business card and felt like bitching after the headache caused by the slightly off colors

All that's really needed is to adjust the gamma, which I hadn't done. IMO it is the best 22" monitor on a budget.
