Haha I guess this will be my intro to the LR forums :]
This is my dorm room setup. Specs are in the sig.
I have an affinity with cable ties.
Notice the ghetto fan mod to the back of the case, stuck in place with cable ties.
You'll soon see why I had to move the rear case fan.. outside the case.
I forgot to wipe the brushed aluminum side panel down before taking the pix a while ago :/
But I chose this case just so it would be quieter in case I have roommates that can't sleep with fan noise (and I just happened to get one who can't sleep with any noise).
(The case is prefit with foam on the two side panels to dampen the noise, rubber on the edges of the panels to seal noise in it.)
And the fact that it doesn't have a side panel makes it less attractive since people walking into the room won't know what's inside of it right away. (my old case lit my room with a blue glow
)
What's under the hood, so to speak.
The Scythe Orochi heatsink.. is MASSIVE.
With the air duct removed, you can see the 4870x2 and the X-Fi card :]
You can't really see it here, but the Orochi barely clears the DHX coolers on the ram. The ram in the slot closest to the CPU has less than 0.25" space between it and the copper heatpipe from the cooler.
I just made a custom fan mod to the case two days ago by hanging a 12cm fan from the top blowing air into the heatpipes of the Orochi.
I've been in an overclocking mood, but it seems like the Orochi doesn't pull enough heat off of my QX6850 processor, so having a fan blow air directly into my heatpipes has lowered my temps by 7-9 degrees idle. :]
I left my camera at home, so a cell phone pix will have to do it some justice.
Enjoy! Comments are welcome :]
