Need a motherboard recommendation for a new build. Around the $200 mark.
It will be put in a build with:
Asus 8800gt 512mb
CORE 2 DUO E8400 3.00GHz or CORE 2 QUAD Q6600 2.4GHz
G.SKILL (2x2gb) PQ 5-5-5-15 DDR2 800
650W ANTEC TRIO PSU
640GB WesternDigital 7200 SATA 16M
Looking for something that has pcie 2.0 and is future proof (at least as much as it can be, I know most if not all parts are outdated as soon as they are released). Don't mind if it has crossfire or sli or not. For gaming.
MotherBoard???
Re: MotherBoard???
Here is an option for you. I've had nothing but good experience with NVIDIA's chipsets. The only thing I'm not 100% sure about is the support for the E8400 since it is one of the newer 45nm chips. I don't know if it supports it right out of the box, but it will for sure with a bios update. It also has full PCI-e 2.0 support as well as SLI.

Re: MotherBoard???
i would recomend this one:

Intel chip sets are better to use with Intel processors, I've had good experience with dfi mobos that i used for my customers. Nvidias run very hot, and theres no real point to go with them except for SLI

Re: MotherBoard???
I too am one of the "Intel on Intel" types. This might fit the bill:

But, if dual GPU is not an issue and you need DDR2 then just about any P35/P45 mobo will fit the bill. The ASUS P45 is a bit expensive and there are some P45 boards at half that price.

There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.
Re: MotherBoard???
I would say that any of the p5x-x ASUS motherboards are good. I personally like the p5k-e, but I am pretty sure that it does not support pci-e 2.0. If it did, I would recommend the board. But I have one question: Uless you are planning on keeping the motherboard for a fairly long time, why would you need PCI-e 2.0. I think that most graphics boards work fine on PCI-e 1.1. But, perhaps by christmas there might be a game and a card that will need the bandwidth. Either 1.1 or 2.0 would be fine, in my opinion. Just a thought. I I am wrong, please let me know.
good luck,

Re: MotherBoard???
Thanks for the OP. I will have a look at your rec any way.
I thought that the M-board would be one thing that i could keep for at least one future build.
