System Restore Question

Post by pso_20 »

I know when I had XP there was an option for a destructive restore which obviously wiped everything. Now that I have Vista, I have no idea how to do this. Theres and option for restoring to an early point but I can't seem to find the destructive restore option.

Your best bet is to just do a full system wipe and reinstall, you'll have far fewer hassles that way. Can I ask why you're need to do this in the first place? We may be able to help!

Well, I've noticed a considerable amount of lag lately while playing TF2 and UT3. These games never lagged before and sometimes now they even freeze. Any ideas why this might be happening all of sudden?

If you have cleaned up the system (defragged the HD, cleaned the temp files, etc) and you still have the problem (and no one has another answer for you) the system restore in Vista in in the Control Panel > System and Maintenance >Backup and Restore Center........down at the bottom is "Use System restore to fix problems...Yada....

Do you have the latest driver for your video card? Have you installed all of the available Vista updates. I noticed a significant improvement in frame rates when I updated Vista with all the latest fixes.

Well, after updating Windows TF2 and UT3 seem to be back to normal. Although, I just bought Crysis and it seems to be doing to same thing except worse. The graphic settings are optimized which is fine because they are set to medium but the lag and frame rate is is horrible. I'm not sure what I can do, besides lower the settings which I really shouldn't have to with the type of card I have. Any suggestions?

You will have to play at medium to low graphic settings to get a decent playable framerate out of the game.

People have said crysis can get away with lower fps as it's motion blur makes it smoother.

25 fps is fine for crysis, but it still takes some low graphics settings depending on your system.

Maybe my video card just isn't cutting it. I found a good ATI card at Newegg and I think this is going to be my next purchase. This way I can take advantage of the crossfire capabilities in the future. Check this beast out!

If you're jumping ship to AMD I would look at these:

This is probably the best graphics bang for the buck at the moment and I think will be faster than the 3870 by quite a bit for less money, but I'm waiting for a dual slot version.

OR after some more info is out on reliability and temps (two of these in Xfire would rock I think)
