Simple but yet a hard choice which would be better? a single XFX 8800GT or two 3850's in crossfire?

And the 3850 is this one here.

Unless the 3850 is a slowed down one in some form or another (i didn't check), I would have thought that crossfire would have beaten the 8800GT.

Here are LR's findings:

Ditto as I would wait until the new cards are until making a video card purchase.

RX280/260 are on the verge of release, the 260 is rumored to be reasonably priced. (under 3 bills) the features are awesome and they have physics built in. No way I'm getting another card not in that line.

All of the above posters have good kung fu ;)

The 4 soon to be released products (4850, 4870, R260, R280) are going to be cooking! If you can wait a bit you'll get more bang for your buck (or at least be able to get a 9800GTX for a lot less :) )

I also am of the opinion that a single (costlier) card solution is better than buying two cheaper cards to try to achieve equal performance. Now, if you are going with 3 or 4 displays then it's different. Less power and heat requirements, and less chance of driver/game issues drive this line of thought.

If it's a "must do now" situation, I would go with the GT, but the 4850s should be up for sale in the next few days. One thing though, I think you guys in OZ get stuff released (or at least "in stock") a little behind us in the US, yes? That might change things up a bit.
