Csico Catalyst 2950

I was borrowed this for the schools lan but they didnt tell me how to use it!!! Can some one shed some light on what settings i will need to use to get a LAN going? IE what i should set the ip DNS and other stuff as. Thanks!

Will you be playing people across the internet? or just in the local lan?
All you really need to do if internet is not going to be active is make sure it has DHCP on, and that should be about it.

Yes it is for a Lan and i am getting that network assitant now.

it says that i need to login to get it, is there another way to set it up for Lan?

All you have to worry about is all the ports on the same vlan. Simply put all you will really need is 2 comps with the same subnet ips, leave one computer plugged into...say port 1 and then plug the other computer into the rest of the ports and see if they ping still trying each port at a time. If they do, you are good to go. If not then yeah, we will have to log into the switch and either reset it (which will be the easiest) or "config t" it and configure all the ports. This is not hard, just have to remember the commands.

Well we had the lan last weekend it was Awesome! We had a nintendo Wii setup to play when people went to sleep. (yes people slept at the lan OMG?). And it turned out to be a great night! THanks for all your help guys!
