On another machine (Presario SR1807CL)the Ethernet connection won't work for the Internet although I can use a USB-to-RJ45 adapter and it works just ducky. I tried reinstalling the driver but no dice. Also, to confuse things further, there's a device "WAN Miniport (IPX)" showing up in device manager but I can't uninstall it and there is no apparent driver for it. Nothing on Compaq's/HPs web site.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Jack

I've experienced something similar to what you're going through, but mine was with an HP Compaq desktop. For some reason, the LAN driver would not install from the CD automatically. I had to open the device manager and update the driver manually. I also couldn't just let Windows try and find it, I had to tell it exactly where it was. I included a picture of the file that the CD creates on your machine, the one I had to tell the device to update with. Perhaps since your afflicted machine is an HP Compaq it will be very similar if not the same.
