I have read everywhere that people say they get better quality sound out of a add on sound card. So I was wondering, after a few searches, if I would notice a difference with this sound card:

over my "high definition" integrated sound? Or would I have to get better quality speakers to hear a difference?

First question, what integrated soundchip is on the mobo. And second what are your current speakers/ headset.

Sound chip is Realtek ALC888

Speakers are a $30 cyber accoustic 2.1 set. Not to fancy but gets the job done.

I believe with those speakers you wont really notice the change, at least i didn't notice a change on my speakers when changing from onboard to X-Fi Xtreme, but could definetly hear the difference on the speedlink 5.1 medusa headset.
So if you're thinking about getting yourself a nice quality headset it would be nice to change, still i would recommend a soundcard with a X-Fi chip, because it's the fastest available.

Alrighty, since I didn't plan on getting new speakers/headset, I guess I'll just get that extra harddrive I've been wanting for a while now.

with 2.1 surround sound just stick with the on-board audio... All i got and I'm happy with it on my 5.1 Logitech speaker system.

Ok cool, thanks a lot guys. Instead I just ordered myself a nice 250 gb hard drive with 16 mb cache instead of wasting money on a sound card!
