New Search Engine Cuil

Post by Apoptosis »

Anyone tried out Cuil yet today?

www.cuil.com

I got one search in then I got this:
We’ll be back soon...

Due to overwhelming interest, our Cuil servers are running a bit hot right now. The search engine is momentarily unavailable as we add more capacity.

Thanks for your patience.

Seems to work very well.... :vom:
We didn’t find any results for “ham radio”

Some reasons might be...

* a typo. Please check your spelling.
* your search includes a term that is very rare. Try to find a more common substitute.
* too many search terms. Please try fewer terms.

Finally, try to think of different words to describe your search.

What is this "Ham Radio" you speak of?

I don't think this really exists.

I tried Dragon's search and got the same message he did.

Yeah, I'm not either.

The website looks ok though, but I would rather have a list of search results than a grid of results. I don't need to see pictures in the results, for that I will use the image search in google.

i like it, though i wish it was more like windows live search since it always has pictures, then it is easier to travel as far as you have to :vom:

I'm curious where they got the strange name though, i dont even think i could spell Cuil twice if i had to

"The company says its name is Irish (Gaelic) for knowledge and hazel. Independent modern dictionary sources list the Irish word cuil as meaning fly or insect." [source]

I personally don't like it, I'll stick with Google and their "relevant" search results...

It's not a google. I tried to do some simple math. Can't do. Tried my phone number. Can't do. Wacky reuslts with zip codes.

ya gotta get use to what it spits out for an answer. It brings back other web page reults that deal with the search.

different.

Type in Saint Louis real estate. Pages that are related to that city with real estate listings show up. Handy for finding a web page or site compared to peck and search on google.

This is like an index search to other web sites. It could be useful once a person masters the key search words.

the fact that they have 120billion pages is nice, and i like how the results are displayed (although more results on a page would be nice), the other features are nice, too

so on paper, it's great, not so much when you actually use it

i think this is a crucial first step for cuil, but i also think they should have called this a beta, it looks as though this may turn into vista, shot down by the early reviews and whatnot... once word spreads, it's screwed
