MB Died???!!!!
I was hoping someone could help me. I was using my PC yesterday when it complete turned off. I wasn't able to restart the PC. I opened the case and my Abit KN8 MB had the red LED lit showing power but it will not turn on when I hit the power button. I bought another power supply and that did not fix the problem. I do not see anything "burnt" on the MB nor did I smell smoke when it shutdown. Is this an idication of a fail MB? I am running an AMD 3500 processor. Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thx,

Ok. I'll give that a try. I did reset the CMOS already but did not remove the battery. I'll take it out and test it with my multimeter to see if it's still charged.

Re: MB Died???!!!!
Nothing at all.
When the PC first went down yesterday, I noticed the fans would give a slight spin when I disconnected the power cord from the PS but nothing when I initially attached the power cord or when I hit the power button on the front of the PC. I didn't mess with it after that because I was on my way out to take my daughter to the local water park. When I started messing with it again last night, the fans didn't even respond anymore.

Re: MB Died???!!!!
Well, I'm assuming it's the mobo. I've disconnected everything from the computer execept the HD. Removed all the ram (no beeping signal when I turned on the PS). Put one stick of ram in. Cleared the CMOS & checked the battery. I even tried jumping the power connections incase the switch was bad. Therefore, I assume it's the mobo. I'm a bit surprised though because I just built this system no more than 2 years ago. I'm sure the warranty has expired on the mobo. Thanks for the help. Time to rebuild (again).

One last check before you go buying new stuff, unplug the PSU from the rest of the system, grab a paperclip and bend it to fit in the 20/24pin connector into the green wire and to any of the black ones.
Then try flicking the PSU switch. If the PSU is OK it should come on, if not, then it could well be the PSU and not the board. If it does come on, only leave it running for a couple of seconds, as running an unloaded PSU is bad for them.
