HELP! ASAP!!

Post by unfaithfulsfan »

Stupid question but how can I restore wireless connectivity to an eMachines laptop Model # M622-UK8X when ipconfig /release and /renew don't work. It cannot connect to any wireless network.

Would a system restore correct the problem? Customer was fine up until a couple of days ago when they couldn't connect. They first disabled McAfee Site Manager because they couldn't connect then Re-enabled it. So I don't know if McAfee is even involved. Looked at Event Viewer but nothing leapt out at me there.

Need to get this thing up and running quickly so customer can head back to Canada.

Thanks everyone and anyone!!!!

this is probably a stupid question too, but is the wireless client turned on? and some laptops have a button to disable/enable wireless/bluetoot, etc., could that have gotten pressed?

haha, I thought that too darkstar:
Is the wireless enabled via the laptop switch and or software?

Does it get anywhere at all with assigning to a network?

Checked the advanced settings on the wireless network tab thing (so that it doesnt say connect to ad hoc only)?

Are all the settings on the wireless adaptors configure page all right?

I worked on a guys notebook once and the software would enable/disable the wireless card and I couldn't get a connection... Ended up a BIOS setting to enable and disable the card was set to disabled. He later informed me he did a BIOS update a few days before.

click on the wifi icon in the tray/network connections, the configure is on the top right, and the advanced is on the "wireless networks" tab.

Can you see networks with the card but not connect?

For the hell of it you may as well try rebuilding the TCP/IP stack:

In CMD go:
netsh int ip reset c:resetlog.txt

Good suggestions from others. Check those, and your router settings as well. If you had set a limit on how many IP connections that could be allowed to the router, you might've reached that limit, thus no wireless internet for your comp.

Thanks for all the tips however, I finally determined the card itself was bad. Didn't have an OEM in stock but tried an external and it worked fine.

Thanks again for all the quick responses! LR always comes through!!!!
