ok have a friend who wants to share his Verizon wireless cards connection to his Wii/PS3/other computers. I am thinking there should be a way to use the computer with the aircard on it and send the signal through a network cable to a wireless router, then have the other devices pick up the signal from there.

Am I correct?

If this will work, can I just plug the network cable from the laptop into the router and BAM, it works? I doubt it..lol

If anyone has any insight into this, I would appreciate some help.

Oh I dont know if he has a USB, PCMCIA or expresscard yet - I left him a message about it and will update (if that info is needed) when he calls or emails.

I know I could use ICS to share with one other computer, but he wants it to share to multiple things at once. Would be REAL nice if they had a router that would accept the card directly!!

Read online also, but people keep going back to a crossover cable to just hook 1 other computer up, which wont work in this case ;)

The way i would try to do it is to assign manual IP's to all the devices, with the internet connected laptop as X.X.X.1, subnet mask as 255.255.255.0, and gateway as the X.X.X.1 address. I think you should also put the DNS as the X.X.X.1 address too. Turn off DHCP on the router.

With the other devices manually set up with the same IP settings (increment the address by 1 every time ), they should be able to get internet from the laptop.


The other suggestion would be bridging the wired and wireless connections on the laptop.
select both and right click: 'bridge connections'
If the router has the upload port as an ethernet port, then do the bridge thing and plug the laptops ethernet into there.


Networking isn't my forté and i'm making most of this up. But i think it should work.

make sure internet connection & printer sharing is enabled on the laptop! windows has a wizard for this built in BTW

Kind of followed that ;) Basically set the computer with the internet connection up to do all the dhcp work rather than the router. argh. I wont be able to talk him through that one..lol They live in Virginia.

I really thought there was a way to do it using the router as the dhcp server and just using a crossover cable to the routers WAN port or something. I usually just play with the network till I get it working, then let it the hell alone..lol

Bridging might work, but that is the one that uses the crossover cable, correct? or would that work with just a normal network cable?

Martini - but windows only likes to share the internet with devices that stay on - sharing with ps3s and wiis are a pain through windows because i always had to restart the darn computer after turning the other devices on to get it to find them - routers find everything once they are hooked in, windows kinda just sits there
