connect printer to both USB and ethernet

Just bought a new multi-function printer (Canon MF4270, $150) from Newegg. It has both USB and ethernet connection, but from reviews, it looks like the scan function won't work over ethernet.

I was just wondering, is it possible to connect the printer to both USB and ethernet at the same time? I'm asking because I don't want to keep a computer turned on just to act as print server when the printer has the functionality built-in, but I'd also like to use it for scanning (at least to the device connected via USB). Many thanks!

In the office, we have an old HP LaserJet that's connected to both parallel port and ethernet at the same time and it works for both. Just wondering if I could do the same with this printer.

IDK about this printer but this works fine on my photo smart all in one. but if your going to have it hooked up to a pc anyway why bother with the ethernet and just share the printer instead?

I installed one of these printers (or a very similar one) for a client a while back and with the software that installed (can't remember which program now), there was an option to "send scan to" or something similar. If you can't find the option, I'll remote connect to their PC tonight and see if I can figure out which program gave the option.

Thanks for all the replies. Will try it when I get the printer tomorrow, hopefully. It's awesome that Newegg has a warehouse extremely close to me. The 3-day shipping usually translates to overnight shipping. :)

Its big brother (MF4690 or something) has that function. I believe it's been cut from this model, though. Not complaining. For $150, I get a decent monochrome laser printer/fax/copier/scanner with ADF and auto-duplex. I remember a time when I paid more for my dot matrix printer (EPSON LX-300?) than that.
