Stupid Nero or Stupid user?

I'm trying touse Nero 7 to back up My docs, etc from a Dell Laptop with Vista Home Premium so I can do a clean install. The computer is horrifically slow and can't determine what is causing the problem so a clean install is my only option at this point. There are only 55 or 56 processes running and I can't get it any lower without crashing the machine.

Anyway on XP I have no problems backing up the user data with Nero 7 using a CD r (or DVD-R when necessary) but Vista won't let me use anything but a DVD+R for the big files, which I don't have in the shop (naturally)

Her Pics and music files are ~2.5 GB (each) so I HAVE to use a DVD (or 5 or 6 CD Rs). I've even tried using the native burning software in Vista and basically I get this response--- :finga: :finga: :finga: :finga: :finga: :finga: :finga: , mofo!

Is there a setting in Nero 7 I'm missing or am I foobar without a DVD+R?

Thanks
Jack

IDK jack about Nero but why not boot into a Knoppix LiveCD (use the -toram boot option if you only have one drive) or my personal favorite, Knoppix LiveUSB? You can mount all of the partitions, pull out what you need and burn it to disk with K3b. [link]

It's a moot point with Stupid user being the problem. It's only a DVD-ROM on the laptop so I have to burn everything to CDs.
It would be great if I could get the laptop to see the network and I could just back it up to my computer. But so far I haven't been able to accomplish that. It sees the network through IPconfig but I'm not familiar enough with Vista to get it to show up through Windows. I just get her computer with Printers as the only drop down. I can't find the options to show the entire network.

Also, at least going this route has provided a cheap thrill. Normally I don't look at customers' files when I work on their computers but file names like "My Boobs" and "[name]'s Ass" are a little hard to ignore.

If you're having issues with the network I'd again try Knoppix, it's really good about picking up an ethernet connection and connecting to it...not so good with wifi but if you're just moving files, it won't kill you to plugin to a hard line for a bit. That's probably the quickest and easiest (and cheapest) method...

On the side note, I recently did some work on a friends laptop, SS&D pulled 44 viruses off the system, with the majority of them being porn related...I harassed him about it for awhile and even gave him a disk labeled 'Computer Condom' that was just a copy of a Linux Mint LiveCD 8==)~

Thanks, I think I have a copy of Knoppix around here somewhere. I've never done much with it just loaded it and farted around for a few minutes. I've gotten most of her personal files moved to CD now I just have Program Files left 3.6 GB. That's gonna be a bitch. Maybe Knoppix will see my computer on the network?

Can't tell you how many times I have found "stuff" cleaning up or repairing a PC.

All time best was for a co-worker, recovered a bunch of AIM logs and emails for him to take to court to help prove she was cheating on him. The stuff that woman woman did and thought was deleted...

I do try not to look at their files but when you run across such provocative file names. I mean, c'mon! One on another was "Wild After Concert Party" Couldn't resist and yep, it was most definitely wild. :supz:

Customer was all paranoid when I returned computer. "You didn't look at any of my files did you?" "No ma'am, we respect your privacy" [wink, wink, nudge, nudge] BIG SMILE O:)

It's the little perks that make the job worthwhile....

I try not to either, but like you found when you had to hand sift through files to find something in particular they wanted back you see the files.

If that had of been taken to somewhere like geek squad, the whole store would of had copies of those files. Was she hot? hehe, couldn't resist.

Last time I browsed any files was fixing a HP Pavilion, was recovering files for a reload.

She turned out to be 400+ Lbs and not afraid to show it. I did an internet search for mind wipe but unfortunately all I could find was lobotomy and I wasn't quite there yet.

The wild after concert party woman was (as were her numerous topless/naked lady friends  ). This last one is more in the Methious's category :vom: I'm sorry but if you've got that many stretch marks, at least be a little modest. <shudder!>
