Huge blank spot in Add/Remove Programs

This happened to me once before and like an idiot, I didn't log the fix and now all I find on Google is stupid crap that does nothing to resolve the issue.

I have a Dell Inspiron notebook with XP MCE 2005 on it. Add/Remove Programs lists the first few programs then it's about 4 blank screens before the next program appears. I know in order to fix the problem, I have to go into the registry and delete the missing programs but I cannot for the life of me remember which key under which installed programs are listed.

Can anyone slap me in the back of the head to jog my failing memory? :bitchslap:

Thanks!
Jack

You know... I never even thought of logging fixes for repairs I do. Most of the time it's just throw down, get it fixed and back to the client. Logging is a great idea, hope you don't mind if I steal it.

Give that a whirl, let me know if it works... I'll add it to my log. :drinkers:

Help yourself!I actually started doing it as web pages in a ploy to improve our Google ranking but it's turned out to be very helpful. I've found by writing it down, I remember the fix a bit easier.

Anyway, here's the solution:
In Add/Remove Programs, note the name of the first program that appears after the blank space. In my case it was "AutoCAD 2000i Migration Assistance".

Go into regedit->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall
Scroll through those keys until you find the offending program-Not alphabetical of course! :cry:
Check the "DisplayIcon" property and remove the "-1" at the end of the string. #-o

Voila!

This is the second or third time this has happened to me. You can bet I'll fargin remember it this time!!!! :mrgreen:

Here's the reference:

Apparently AutoCAD must do this a lot because there was a specific link for a fix for that app

Happy fixin'!!
