New build, thoughts?

Post by GI-JOE »

Going to be swapping my current motherboard/cpu for this one if all goes well.

Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813130210

CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103234

I figured that with this combo, I would be more on par to upgrade to Deneb(since Nehalem looks out of my price range) Also, I like to future proof as much as possible because I plan on keeping this for a while. (PCI-express 2.0 etc.)

Note: this system would be used for some light gaming, and I figured a 2.9ghz athlon would be around the performance of my e2140(maybe a bit less, but all in all nothing that would be drastically noticed). Also, I think this would use a little bit less power.

Total cost in the end will be $0 on my part, so I might bite for it.

Edit: Also I never was impressed with the responsiveness of the intel system, while my old system (amd 3800x2) still impresses me in general day to day uses.
So what's everyone's thoughts on this?

Upgrade for $0? I don't care what it is, if it's free take it.

Ok, should have said this. Planning on giving my motherboard/cpu to someone, and getting the new parts with the money I get.

An afterthought, how does a phenom 8450 compare to my e2140?

O.O

Your Gigabyte board would support a 45nm Intel quad core, why move back to AMD?

I've used a Phenom system at my work and honestly I prefer my E6750. If I were you I would upgrade that Pentium dual core chip and realize the potential of your motherboard.
Cyberpower generic case
B450M PRO-VDH MAX
Ryzen 5 3600 w/PBO/OC
CM Hyper 212 EVO push/pull
Corsair VENGEANCE LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 CL16
MSI RTX 3060 Ti Ventus 3X 8G OC LHR
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB
6GB Seagate HDD
EVGA 650BQ 650W PSU
ASUS VE278 27" monitor, Dell E2216HV (vertical)
Logitech Z533 2.1 Speakers, G935 7.1 or G435 headset
MS LXM-00001 keyboard
Razer Deathadder Elite, XBOX One Lunar Shift controller

I've come a long way from my original Core2Duo E6750 build y'all! :supz:

Honestly, I think AMD will have a longer/better upgrade path (that is if AM3 CPU's are able to be plugged into AM2+ sockets like the rumor is). Also, AMD quad's are going to be a lot cheaper once Core i7 is released. Plus I like the thought of having decent integrated graphics so I don't have to buy a dedicated graphics card for the board and cpu when I am done. :P

Also, there is good hope for Deneb too!
