Better Processor

Post by corpse916 »

Which processor would be better (preferably for gaming):

2.5 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
or
2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad

The reason why I ask is because all the articles I have read go back and forth between 1) AMD vs Intel OR 2) Dual Core vs Quad Core. I can never get a definite answer so I decided to ask some knowledgeable people for their opinion.

For gaming, Intel core 2 quad would be better..hell a core 2 duo would be better for gaming too considering most games don't use but 1 core..but between those 2 you mentioned..the intel would be better

The athlon series is outdated and weak now. The more reasonable comparison would be say an E8400-8600 vs a quad core intel, or a Phenom vs intel. Either way right now intel seems to have the market by the tongue.
As for dual or quad. More demanding games are utilizing the quad core CPUs, but, it doesn't need to be your main choice. If your concern is gaming and a budget get a e5300 wolfdale for $80, and a 9600gt for under 100. More or less if you have a budget someone could help you out some more. But, comparing dual core vs quad, it's what you want to spend, AMD vs Intel, once again the upper half of the market is intel. And for budget systems they are close together.
