ok well i installed 2 8600gts cards in my rig (setup is in my signiture) and it kept resetting itself so i went back to an old graphics card that i know works fine and now my system keeps freezing sometimes in windows and sometimes before, i have tried changing my hard-drive, clearing c-mos and i have taken the entire computer apart and rebuilt it to check all connections, i have no more ideas as to what it could be as everything was bought new over the last month or 2, any ideas as to whats going on? thanks in advance, loki.

I really don't like the look of that PSU. I worryingly can't find any specs of what amps its voltage rails can provide, which is the key to power supplies (rather than their overall wattage rating), so odds are it's over-rating itself as to the power it can output.

Did you reformat and re-install windows between card swaps? Or uninstall graphics drivers then run driver cleaner pro? It could be some left over conflict in drivers from switching between nvidia and ATI.

well i did uninstall the drivers between swapping out the cards, but i also tried booting with a different hard drive in and my normal one unplugged so if there was a driver conflict it wouldn't matter anyway??

Was the other hard drive a new install? Try running memtest86+ for a couple of passes to check the memory.

memtest is a boot cd and runs from CD outside of windows.

If the other hard drive is from a different computer and had windows installed when it was plugged into that one, then put it in your new pc and expecting it to work isn't going to happen. Windows customises itself to the hardware it is running on when you install it, so if the hardware (most importantly the mobo) isn't identical in the second PC you try and use it with you are going to run into problems.

ok well i'm testing the psu in an old system (amd sempron 3300 on a random foxconn board with 1 gig of ram) and it seems to be working fine it maybe that its not under much stress so i may order another mobo to test my setup on??

I'm leaning towards Dan's assessment of your PSU. You old system you're testing it on is far less demanding of your PSU than your new set up with two 8600 cards in SLI so just because it's running your old system with no problems doesn't necessarily mean it can keep up with the draw of your new system.

i had a problem with frezzing a few months back, i built a new system and it would freeze after booting up after a few min.- it turned out to be the CPU. do you have another system you can test the CPU in?
