Temperature Problem!

Hi all i have a new pc up and running but i am unsure if it is running to hot or not. so to test this i used realtmp coretemp and speedfan.

speedfan is the best in my eyes but then they all gave the same readings and here they are:

GPU 1: Idle 50c Load Playing Crysis Max 77c
GPU 2: Idle 45c Load Playing Crysis Max 77c
System: Idle 35c Load Playing Crysis Max 47c
AUX: Idle 46c Load Playing Crysis Max 51c
CPU: Idle 38c Load Playing Crysis Max 52c
Core 0: Idle 33c Load Playing Crysis Max 48c
Core 1: Idle 33c Load Playing Crysis Max 48c

and getting these temps from crysis on max as it is the game that requires most performance to run both processor and graphics in todays gaming.
can you tell please which of the idle and load temperatures are to hot and what to do to fix them thx.

and this is my gaming rig:

asrock penryn1600 SLI-110dB
samsung hd502ij SCSI Disk Device (500.11 GB)
2x2048mb ocz nvidia Dual SLI memory
intel core 2 duo 3.16ghz e8500 with zalman cnps9500a
2x512mb 9800gt

The core temp of 33*C at idle and 40*C load is perfectly fine, nice actually.

The GPU temps may be a touch warm under load but not horrible.

Yep, those temps are fine.

well i was thinking that my gpu and my cpu would be too hot more my cpu than anything. but what i dont understand is how my core temps are bout 46c but cpu bout 66c 100% load.

just had a look at my cpu cooler and it turns out that i may of had to much paste on there at it was i lil over the edge of cpu almost like a brick style lol. clean up the paste and put a new thinner load on paper thin and now on full load it was 66c and is now 52c and idle is 38c not 44c yay.

The reported CPU temp actually looks like it is a motherboard sensor of some kind, as the core1 and core2 values are the actual core temps (as calculated as best they can be from the internal temperature diodes) and they are a lot closer to what the inside of the CPU is working at so those are the important ones.

Either way though, you've reduced your temps by a decent amount which is a good thing :)

i now have another problem my graphics card are getting very hot on 100% load they both heat up to 77c. i mean like what the hell i lower one temp but somehow rise the other. i know for a fact that 77c on these graphics card are way to hot and idont want to damage them.

They're rated as good for over 100oC, but I'd not want mine that hot either.

Can you set the fan profiles in rivatuner? You should be able to set the fans to run faster, and/or ramp up earlier to keep the card cooler.

Dan

PS. Has your room got much hotter since the last test? A change in ambient could be messing with the consistency of the results.

yeah, i wouldn't be freaking out because of 77C, i used to have a TV Tuner in between two dual slot cards in SLI, the tuner blocked off airflow to the top card(then tvtuner was touching the fan shroud), and it was at 112C under load for almost two days straight! it still works great, folding 24/7(100% GPU stress) now

some cards you can't change fan speeds (such as BOTH of my GSOs) you could try getting any dust out of the heatsink/fan, or applying new thermal paste on the cards if you want it a bit lower, or check to see if there is something blocking airflow in your case to the cards

I agree that 77c is no reason to freak out, but it is too hot for my likes all the same.

If you have at least a 3 pin fan header, you should be able to adjust the fan speed with Rivatuner as Dan suggested. Also, if I remember correctly, those cards have a single slot cooler and the small plastic fan isn't all that great. You would most likely be happier buying an aftermarket GPU cooler for those cards. I added a Zalman ZF900 to my 8800GT and I was very impressed when it ran cooler and quieter.

yeah i have noticed my graphics cards are very close together. the top one is blocked by the bottom one but then its SLI and the bridge is a short one. so how can i seperate them without losing SLI, i mean can i get a longing SLI bridge and not have to reinstall anything just plug and play.

As dmb2000uk has asked my room temp is 24c most of time in winter thats the top temp. and also skierkid450 its a new system 3 weeks old got no dust or anything blocking it but thx for the help on trying to get my system cooler so far without the use of money as i got none.

i would imagine the SLI bridge you have now is you only option, as generally only one length will fit a given board, how many PCIe slots do you have?

it has 3 pcie slots but the graphics cards are spaced out as much as they can so is there anyway that i can cool it down more than they already are as this is a new pc and i want to prolong its life as £800 dont come easy in my life. Also my cpu on 100% load is hitting 71c but my core 0 and core 1 are only hitting 46c. what the hell i sorted this lst night but now it gone weird.

Like I said before, the two Core0 and Core1 readings are the important ones, and they are definately under control. So you don't really need to worry about it.

It could just be a poorly calibrated motherboard sensor, or even just a faulty one.

Could you post a (few) picture(s) of the inside of your case, so we can see what it's like regarding airflow and space for (cheap) mods for better cooling.

+1 to Dan. I'm running a ASUS P5B-DH mobo and it routinely posts temps 10 deg out of skew with the actual core temps. This is not an uncommon complaint but it certianlly is no "problem" as it were.

earlier when playing jericho and any game that needs alot of cpu and gpu power made my pc turn off. it didnt just shut down normally like a power cut turn off and my gpu 77c and cpu 71c 100% load. why did it do that and keep doing it.
