hi guys, i have a lil problem with my CPU as stated in my first topic post.what i have noticed is that my CPU will read 38c idle temp with core 0 and core 1 at bout 34c but most of the time when i turn my pc on the CPU temp is idle 57c but my core 0 and core 1 are still idle at 34c.
i have the e8500 stock 3.16ghz with the zalman 9500 CPU cooler. could anyone tell me what my problem is?

I am guessing the 57C is from BIOS readings?
I rely on BIOS more so than anything else personally.
Check to make sure your cooler is fitted TIGHTLY on the CPU, make sure you put thermal paste on in a THIN layer (dont gob it on), make sure your fan is spinning on the cooler, turn the fan up to high speed and see how your temps do if it is adjustable.
Those are the easy things - next would be to check the bottom of the cooler to make sure it is flat and not bowed or concave.
Mike
Also - If you restart and see high temps, let it sit on the BIOS screen for a couple minutes and see if the temps come down - might just be from restarting the computer, since the fan goes off for a brief period.

yes that bios reading left it to idle in the bios and still it heats up to 57c. the CPU cooler is fitted fine and the paste is thin paper thin lol. but how can the cpu heat up to 57c idle and both cores inside be much much cooler. like i said 34c idle

what motherboard are you running and what does the latest version of CoreTemp say?

cpu reading's in bios ussually optained through a probe, which ussually arent as acurate as you cpu's internal temperature sensor. the cpu temp doesnt matter, all you need to worry about are your core temperatures

my motherboard is an asrock penryn SLI 1600 and i hope that its just the cores to worry bout as i think that may be part of why my pc turns off. by the way my cpu idle is 43c and i just turned it on as i been out allday also my bed room is 15c lol bloody cold so maybe faulty sensor. i think this as the rest of my pc hardware is reading under 30c and as i said it only just been turned on.

Have you tried updating the motherboard's bios?
It took me three attempts to write updating, my typing is getting worse....
