I am hopefully going to get my CPU replaced in about week or so, due to the fact that my CPU used to get very hot and with 1 year warrenty i should be able to replace it. the reason it over heated so much was due to the company that built it putting to much thermal paste on it and an incorrectly placed CPU cooler. i have been told that my CPU at 75c will of damaged my CPU internally maybe not much but a lil.

but my question is how will i know that they have changed my CPU and not lied? is there any code that i could find in the manual that i can take a note of and check it when i recieve my new one or something.

well..there are 2 ways that I know of(one within windows and without) there are others but don't really need them...1 way is to click on "System" in the Control Panel and that will show the cpu speed and model(example= Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.67 Ghz, 4.00 GB Ram)..the other way would be to take the heatsink fan off of the cpu itself and look at the print on the cpu..it will also have some other info printed on it that can be helpful on identifying it, and will also ID it even if it was replaced by the same model..just make sure you make note of what you have now and then later..I'm sure you knew that but wanted to at least mention it...a program called cpu-z should also have some info that would help...might even be easier than taking the heatsink off

i will be replacing it with the same CPU i have now which is the e8500 stock i would not like to remove the heatsink as of the thermal paste and not having anymore to put back on. so can i find the ID using a software or something.

yea cpu-z would be the best program that I know of..it will also list the stepping and revision of the cpu..I would imagine there would be a difference on stepping/revisions even with a the same model by this point in time.

Is this reading with that poorly calibrated motherboard sensor?

no i didnt but it has been getting that hot until recently when i fixed the problem but anyway just wondered what software if any would be best to tell so that i know if my CPU has been replaced and not been scammed.

CPU-Z is the standard for CPU identifier programs

If you return it they are not obliged to replace the CPU, just fix the overheating issue.
If the CPU isn't faulty, then they won't replace it.
