The one that came with my motherboard has just packed in.
I want to get a really good replacement (i.e. high gain), what should I get?
It only needs to be 'g' but I will get a 'n' if it will give better 'g' reception.

Does it have to be PCIe? There are plenty of USB powered adapters that work fine. I don't see them saturating the bandwidth of a USB 2.0 port anyway. Theoretical speeds vs actual speeds of Wireless N and G on a USB port are fine.
This way if you have a friend/relative bring over a PC for help you have any easy way to connect to your wireless network. Just pull the adapter out of your box and plug it into theirs.

I already have a USB wifi stick and it doesn't have the range I need to connect solidly. I even ran a 5m USB extension cable and moved the USB stick closer to the access point and it still wasn't connecting solidly (steam would keep dropping out).
Would be cool to see a card like that DLink one with high gain antenna's on

if you get ones like that you can make your own antennas
