Printer woes

Just asking for opinions really cuz I guess I'll find out soon enough when I put XP back on. BUT!! I've been running Vista 64 with my Kodak AIO 5100. It was printing fine then my wife started printing a lot of photos for a project, which oddly enough is what the printer is basically designed for, and about halfway thru, the pictures started coming out fubar. Some colors weren't printing at all; the backgrounds were "staticky" is the only word I can think of to describe it in my medicated state of mind; and some were coming out almost like a negative.

The cartridge levels were good according to the utility. I thought perhaps because we hadn't been printing much that they had just dried out so I replaced them with some I got at Sam's. Same thing so then it got ugly. :x

I've gone thru I don't know how many new cartridges from I don't know how many different places, driver reinstalls, head cleanings & readjustments, etc. etc. . I'm wondering if it'll straighten out once I go back to a 32 bit OS. :-k The printer is just over a year old (ironically, from a warranty standpoint, huh?) so I hate the thought of junking it until I'm up to working on it. :(

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks
Jack

Think if it was an OS issue that it would have been fubar from the start. If you can, see if you can hook up to another 32bit system to test it before nuking your box back to XP.

It could have just up and died.

Just a thought but have you tired to clean the print head using the utilities program most printers have? How about calibration?

It sounds like it may be an internal problem with the printer. If you've done all of the reinstalls and calibrations then that's pretty much all that's left. Like bubba said if it was the OS then it wouldn't work at all.

It’s the printer, buy a new one.

The memory has gotten fried onboard or something along those lines.

To paraphrase Beavis (so I don't get fussed at for language :? )
"dang it dang it sonofabuck dang it dang it sonofabuck sonofabuck sonofabuuuccckkkk!!!" :x

I'd thought that too but I'd hoped that wasn't the case. We had bought the first one and tried to print a batch of photos. The feed pulled about 6 sheets of photo paper and fubar'd the print head so we exchanged it, vowing to print photos in batches of one only.

When I ran the cleaning and calibration utility multiple times with no results, I was worried that something major had happened. No more fargin' Kodak printers for me :finga: :finga: I guess you just get what you pay for.' #-o

Thanks
Jack

Yes, I HATE Kodak printers, and their cameras, etc - coming from someone who used to be forced to sell them at Best Buy (Geek Squad) I have my reasons - most of them revolve around them being JUNK.

HP is getting just as bad, everything is so bloated.

I'm honestly 100% happy with my free brother all in one, MFC 420CN - bought ink for $10 and have used the piss out of it.

For photos, I hate to say it but HP is the only thing I'd recommend. :(
