wish i could max out the setting but at my res and quality i want..it not possible lol. I doubt a 2GB card would let me either at the same quality(but close it will be)

Edited this image as half of this portion showed the same info as the top image. Too bad the benchmark didn't show the actual cpu speed..
Image

Note; I just maxed everything but the detail and the whole system crashed. I noticed more people and cars but not as much to the point where the auto config won't show near as many already, not to mention perform a tad better

well i know this game is cpu intensive. i mean, i get 98% cpu usage and 83% gpu usage and 60% memory usage lol and only get 36.55 fps. everything on medium and texture filter and reflection on high. draw and detail distance at 30 with vehicle density at 20 and shadow density at 2. and i am guessing this game is not SLi supported. as you have a 1gb gtx 285 resource is 999mb and i have 512mb 9800gt in SLi, should be bout same but it is 498mb.

in fact is there any chance that you could set all settings to the same as mine and res at 1280/1024 so i can see what you get in frame rate with that 1gb 285 as that would be a close to estimate of mine in SLi.

yea RockStar confirmed SLI/Crossfire is not supported. They say it made the game perform worse. Which i don't see how but then again, when you're drawing everything on screen at once, it does make sense. The ram thing I figured out when my dad's 3870 x2 would only use half the ram it actually had. I know there wasn't much difference in performance on lower res, but that was on my last rig and not this one :). ill post up pics of your setting in a short bit for ya.

you can add a commandline.txt file in the main GTA directory and write:

-norestriction
-nomemrestrict

and by that disable the memory restictions, when maxed out you need about 1,5 GB, because of medium textures it only needs 850MB.

yea but doing that did nothing for me. The game would still crash. I haven't done it since 1.0.3 came out though so it could've been because of the mods back then lol. luckily I stopped that BS. i suppose I will try it again.

well I saw 2 things when I used those commands. #1..like Rat mentioned, a 2GB card(as in 2GB per gpu) will handle maxing everything out. #2 the game runs worse with those commands :lame: . I knew it was a bunch of hype :P If it wasn't a Fellow LR'er who told me that, I'd run you over.. :axe: j/k

Not sure why it doesn't work. Never really liked that mod since it slows the server and can crash it too. Specially when some a-hole goes ape with it. Usually when I had an issue I had to update the dsound.dll to the same version as GTA..but I haven't used them in a while so it might be different now.

I am running a 9600gt 1gb card with a Q6600. I have most settings on high except shadows. Draw distance is medium. I find it very playable at those settings with the latest patch.

This is at 1600x1050

Well it worked for me, my fps didn't go down more than 5 frames and the game never crashed on me, yet :)
Might be the ATI graphics card, but maybe just luck.

Have you tried renaming the executable to something else that is supported by SLi? Have you looked at EVGA's SLi patch?

The EVGA SLI patch does nothing for it. Already had that patch installed and no magic. All I found the patch to do was add SLI profiles for a crapload of games(that's all I found anyway)..none of which listed GTA4. I'm not sweatin SLi on this anymore. When I saw R* mention that they were not supported for performance reasons, I gave up even trying
