Best Monitor/Brand

My current monitor (a 20.1" sceptre) is on the verge of death, so its time for me to pick up a new monitor. I was wondering what the best monitor brands are and what models I should look for/avoid. I have about $200 to spend and I would like to go as large as possible while maintaining a good standard of quality while not spending too much. All recommendations are welcome.

I like the Dell LCD's myself. Samsung usually runs a sale on thier LCD monitors and they usually have a pretty quick refresh rate.

Knew I could count on you to chime in Skipp since you're huge on monitors and TVs. thanks for the input, I already checked out Dell, found them to be a bit pricey (at least for the moment), but I will check out Samsung. If anyone else has any suggestions I am all ears.

I have used (home and work) Samsung, Sony, Viewsonic, and Sceptre. the Scepture is excellent for a real cheap LCD, the Samsung and Viewsonic are top of the line as far as i am concerned. I havent had a problem with any of them (100 combined). I have had problems with the Sony and have not had very many of them.
A buddy just got the 24" viewsonic at Costco for $250 and is real happy with it, i have used the 22" ones at work with no problems.

Problem I have with sceptres are their life expectancy. My sceptre monitor's DVI is just about shot so I think I will avoid them this time.

Edit: found two monitors that are in my price range:

and

any opinions?

After nearly 8 years, my workplace upgraded the 21" CRTs to Samsung LCDs. :)

Yes, Samsung has a great picture and fast refresh rates.

Can't really help you here, I've owned two LCD monitors and both of them are Samsung. Subjectively I have always liked Viewsonic's glass screen LCDs. The picture just seems to look better.

If you're after a budget monitor I would recommend Acer. I have 2 and they're both excellent. Once is a 22" and the other a 19". Both support up to 1680x1050. I also have a Sceptre 20" that I really like, and it has the glossy screen for those who like that. The Acer's do not and I prefer them.

I've never owned Asus, Samsung, or Viewsonic, but I hear that are very good monitors.

Typically, if you go by the reviews on Newegg, you'll be fine.

I've never seen an ASUS monitor so I don't know how well they are built or look. My parents and sister/brother in law both own Acer LCDs. The picture on it seems fine. My sister's monitor has been abused for 3 years and still works great (3 small kids touching it, spilling stuff on it, moving it, you get the picture).

HI, how about LG they have come out with some that has Contrast Ratio 50000:1, I wish this was out before I got my Acer G24. The Acer has the same ratio and the picture quality is absolutely the best compared to others I looked at.

I've owned a few. So far, the Dell 2209WA is the best I've owned.

good choice on the ACER I have had a few of them and they are still going strong. I also have a Hanns-G LCD i dont think it looks as good as the ACER's do.

I was going to get the Acer 23" h series. I decided against it since I looked at this HP 23 and it just looked sooo much better. I was expecting to bring it back in 14 days before I had to return it if the glare got to me. Day one I almost did. After I moved my lights. I'm glad I chose the brand I always hated HP. haha. Either way monitors are looking incredible even the budget ones now.
