Ok... first off i dont know much about computers so please bear with me as i try to explain this.
I recently bought a inspiron 350s and it came with windows vista
Everything was working fine until i decided to change from windows vista to windows xp.
I guess i was being a complete fool and didnt take into account of the ethernet drivers.
Windows xp works fine but i couldnt get an internet connection. The connection wouldnt even show up.
So i checked the Device Manager and the following had a yellow ? with an ! over it and they were all under Other Devices
Ethernet Controller
Ethernet Controller
PCI Device
PCI Simple Communications Controller
SM BUS Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
I checked the Dell website and found this
http://support.dell.com/support/downloa ... &TabIndex=
I guess i need to download these drivers but it doesnt say the name or anything about the driver so i cant search for them.
I dont know if that website will help or not but thats all i found.
Please help
Need help installing drivers
Re: Need help installing drivers
Hey there,
I assume you mean that you bought a 530s and not the 350s, as I couldn't find that one.
From the Link you posted download
Network - Realtek Driver
You'll need those for you internet connection.
The Other Drivers will depend on the specifications of your 530s.
If you can list those here we'll know which of the other drivers you'll need.

Re: Need help installing drivers
yea, sorry about the typo. =P
Ok... Do you think that will fix my internet problem because if so that i can just download the rest of them from device manager.

Re: Need help installing drivers
yes you need to download(hunt online for) the drivers for your ethernet since you don't have a motherboard driver disk like when you build a PC yourself, for the other drivers you need, once your online the 'windows update' will get those for you, be they older than you could get by finding it online(like graphics card drivers)
and dont forget to plug your VGA cord into your video card, not integrated VGA port off the motherboard once you get your card, and go into the BIOS to set video settings off integrated and to dedicated, oh, and disable C1E/power stepping while you're at it as those setting throttle your CPU when not being fully utilized

Re: Need help installing drivers
We need more info... get a program that tells us what components are installed.
However, install this http://majorgeeks.com/Intel_Chipset_Sof ... d1667.html for your chipset drivers.
Download Everest (http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?ps= ... en&page=48) open it up and go to Computer->System Summary. Tell us what it says in there by going to Report->Report Wizard->System Summary Only. Copy and paste the hardware values here for us to look at. Do not copy and paste the debug info or your XP serial number.
