Whats up with Lite-On avaiability?

I'm in the market for a couple new DVD-rw's.
So I started looking last weekend and can't hardly find any Lite On's in stock at the usual places I shop(Newegg, Mwave, ZZF....)
Does anyone know whats going on?

not sure... I just went to order a Thermalright Ultra-120 for someone and noticed they are MIA also...

Same happened to me. Gave my dad my old comp but kept the cd/dvd drives and the HDD. Promised him I'd order some new stuff and couldn't find Lite-On's in stock, well atleast the ones I wanted.

Optical disc drive supplies to remain tight in 3Q09
Yen-Shyang Hwang, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Friday 3 July 2009]

The supply of optical disc drives used in notebook and desktops will remain tight in the third quarter of 2009 due to a shortage of pick-up heads (PUHs), according to industry sources in Taiwan.

Global suppliers of pick-up heads, including Sanyo Electric and Hitachi, have focused capacity expansion on Blu-ray Disc pick-up heads rather than DVD and CD because the former is more profitable, the sources pointed out.

Second-tier notebook and desktop vendors have suffered most from the supply shortage, since suppliers have given priority to first-tier vendors such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Acer, the sources indicated.

Yep I noticed that the last 3 DVD burners I added to my newegg cart were all removed due to insufficient stock.
