My sister and brother in law's computer bit the dust, actually the motherboard did. Since they haven't purchased a PC in 7 years (thanks to me giving them my old builds) I decided it was time for them to buy their own parts. Unfortunately for them I gave them a Opteron 170 (Skt 939), motherboard and DDR RAM. It just seems like a better investment to purchase newer tech. Which CPU would you purchase of the two listed? Even though I don't live with them I am able to help them out quite easily since I only live a few miles away. Either CPU WILL be overclocked of course. I like to get my money's worth out of a CPU and overclocking is just free performance.
Thanks.
Which Processor Would You Pick?
Re: Which Processor Would You Pick?
Intel
Honestly I would make them pony up a bit more cash and try for a core i7.

Re: Which Processor Would You Pick?
E5200. For the one fact that you can get a G31 gigabyte motherboard that will overclock for $52. For the builds I do, intel is actually cheaper for once!

Honestly, you have to define the word "bit"! An i7 setup would cost a considerable amount more.KnightRid wrote:Intel

Re: Which Processor Would You Pick?
I wouldn't even recommend them an i7. What they do on a PC is nothing that would ever take advantage of the CPU. The most taxing application that is run on their computer is LEGO Star Wars.
Re: Which Processor Would You Pick?
Why those processors? The price difference is is at least 30 bucks. Microcenter has the E8200 for $100 right now, I would choose that over AMD 550.
Re: Which Processor Would You Pick?
After pricing out motherboards, etc... they came out to be roughly the same price. I didn't know about the Microcenter sale.
