Tendons and water cooling

What do these two things have in common? Absolutely nothing! But I'm typing one-handed so I figured I'd throw into a single thread.

Okay, first up is the tendon thing. I somehow managed to tear my right bicep tendon yesterday. It doesn't hurt, so long as I don't try to move my arm or hold anything in my hand. Went into the ER and that was their take. I see an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow afternoon so that he can take a look. How did I do it? Well, that's somewhat embarrassing, but I'll share anyway. At a middle school nearby they have these big recycling bins. So I took up a bunch of cardboard and what not that we had. One of the bin doors was open so I decided to be nice and close it when I left. These things look like big dumpsters. The doors lay flat on top and flip over and down at an angle. I'm not the tallest guy in the world (around 5'9") so when I was trying to flip the lid over something rippled across my elbow, and then the bicep knotted up, and I was done for. Luckily I don't live far from there, so I was able to drive home in 2nd gear (yeah, have a 5-speed). So stand up, stretch your arm as high as you can and make a right to left sweeping motion. I had it at about 45 degrees when a bit of wind caught it. I tried to power through it and that's when it happened. Bottom line - recycling is dangerous and you should never do it.

Now for the water cooling update... My rad is freaking leaking!!!! Today I heard some water in the lines so my fluid level is a bit low. A quick investigation this evening showed me a bad spot on the rad. It's nowhere near where my screws are holding it in, so I don't know what happened. It's been fine for the past year or so that I've had it under water. I think it's a Swiftech MCP 320 (will have to double check model #). Anyway, I'm really f'n pissed right now, but I guess it's part of the game. I'll have to figure out what to do here fairly quickly. Being that I have a bum arm (yes, right arm, and yes, I'm right handed) it might be a challenge lugging around (and man handling) a loaded TT Armor case.

Yes, recycling is bad. That's what you get for trying to be a nice guy and closing the lid, best advice I can give you is just be complacent.

So your troubles plus mine are not instilling very much confidence in this company.

Good luck with your arm, hopefully it's just hyper-extended and you don't need surgery, just rest. And good luck with your water cooling.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. This isn't what I want to here since I just put a swifty trip rad in my phenom 2 rig. Hopefully all is easy to repair for ya.

Okay, so here is the spot on top of the tower that I noticed last night.



Hard to see from the under side of the rad. It appears that the leak is directly above a screw hole. Weird, but maybe the fan screw damaged the rad? I'll have to take a look when I get a chance. I'm guessing that I damaged it last time I wiped my fans down.

Well craptastic - took the rad in for a buddy to look at. I was hoping that he could repair it, but turns out that he can't. My water cooling setup was put together last August. So I figure it has been leaking a short while now (maybe a couple of weeks, not sure really). So 11 months on this rad? I looked it over and it was not due to any error on my part - meaning I did not hit a fin with a screw. Any suggestions on a new rad that won't leak after 11 months or so?

How long is the swiftech waranty on stuff like that?

That I don't know. I'm not even sure if I still have the receipts from when I ordered it, so probably don't have "proof."

Need to get this rig back up and running, so went ahead and ordered a new rad. Went with another Swiftech - glutton for punishment I suppose. Anyway, looked at the old rad again and I see a dimple where it looks like someone ran a screw in. I know I didn't do it, but I think that is probably what caused the leak. Wondering if I got a "returned" item or what.

Strange that it only just started playing up though.

At least it didn't leak onto stuff and blow them up.

Sucks about your arm too. They given you an estimate of how long that takes to heal?

My thought as well. I cleaned the fans out really good about two months ago and initially thought that maybe I tightened a screw down a bit too tight. After inspecting the rad there is no visible damage on that side. Maybe just one of those goofy things I'll chalk up to dumb luck. The leak was very slow, and yeah, lucky nothing got fried - especially since the rad sits above everything!

Had an MRI yesterday and go in to see the doctor on Monday. It has actually felt better and better every day this week. If you saw me moving around you'd never know I'm injured. I should find out whether or not I'll need surgery and then go from there. Don't really have a time frame yet for 100% heal though.

From personal experience do yourself a favor and get a copy of your MRI to keep for yourself. I'm on my 2nd neurologist, about to be 3rd, and every Dr. I see wants a copy of my MRI. Hopefully your Dr. isn't an incompetent moron and you won't need to bounce from physician to physician.

Thanks Major, I'll request a copy when I see him (good advice). He came highly recommended from several folks I know.

I went through the bouncing thing too just over 10 years ago with an ankle injury. The ER folks sent me to the same office that I went to that time and I blew them off. Did a bit more research this time and I think this guy is good to go.

You too eh Major? I almost think seeing a Doctor is worse for your health than not going to one. My mother's disability pay has been postponed repeatedly because the 6 doctors she sees, can't get her records faxed to them correctly(much less keep track of them..shouldn't have to fax the 25 pages to each doctor more than once). Plus I'm extremely pissed at my mother's(mine as well) Primary Doc after I caught her in a blatant lie. I haven't confronted her about it yet though since I won't be nice about it. Hope it goes better for you Major. Lord knows, we all deserve better health care.

I'm 29 and I've probably been on more drugs in the last 6 months than most 60 year olds. I've depleted my savings trying to get an answer but I don't see it happening. So much for my "home" funds, I guess I'll be back in an apartment once I find a job.
