Hard to call...having 3 gtx 285's will be bottlenecked by the stock speed of the cpu. I'd probably call you a wuss j/k..I'd do 3 myself but with how the case and the motherboard fit on my rig, it just wont happen

I wouldn't call you a poser. Not everyone enjoys tinkering in the BIOS. I have my E8500 OCed but only because it was really easy to do. If it took any significant amount of time I probably would have left it at stock settings

I'm waiting on my C2Quad to arrive for my new build and I don't know if I'll oc or not yet. Just depends. I'm like x.clay. Might oc if it's not a major chore like my old amd x2 whatever it is on this GB board. Just will have to see what the new GB board BIOS is like.

Re: will you call me a poser if i dont OC?
I've only got two builds overclocked and both have an Atom 330 (those sorely need the boost in clockspeed). The rest of my systems are all running stock. Overclocked a build before. Worked like a champ until SoCal summer rolled in and the PC started rebooting every 2 weeks. Now, it's back to stock. They're mostly idle all the time anyway so there really was no point to overclocking, at least for my usage. I'd even undervolt/underclock them, unfortunately, I don't have the time to tinker. All my computers have been bugging me for a reboot for a month now as I still haven't rebooted since I last updated Windows.

Re: will you call me a poser if i dont OC?
Why would we do that? Overclocking isn't something you have to do if you build your own rigs. Only reason I do it is because I see it as "free" performance.
Re: will you call me a poser if i dont OC?
No I wouldn't call some one a poser. Overclocking isn't for every one and I wouldn't expect any one to OC unless they are willing to try.

To me, leaving a system constantly overclocked is kinda useless. Will I oc the hell out of my system for benchmark purposes? Ofcourse. But I don't need an extra 600MHz for firefox or counterstrike. I vote no.

It also depends what resolution you're gaming at. At 1920x1080 most "fast" CPUs are considered equal.

Re: will you call me a poser if i dont OC?
I like to think I enhance my chips. Once you understand how chips are binned, it makes sense to get the most out of your purchase by squeezing out 10-20% more performance if the chip will let you. I'm not a big fan of taking chips to their breaking point unless its purely for benchmarks, but I do think that not overclocking could be looked at two ways: you're playing it safe, but not getting all the value per dollar spent.
Considering that most "enthusiasts" have a healthy appetite for upgrades, I'd recommend buying a budget chip (something from the Phenom II lineup for you) when you spot a really good deal, and just trying out some OC action. That could be a nice way to break the ice without worrying about killing your primary CPU.
But to be frank, I think that overclocking should only be done by people who understand the hardware interactions more than the typical "first time system builder". Having a machine that works how you built it to is worth all the effort regardless of if you want to dip your toes into the world of overclocking

Why would people call you a poser for not OC'ing? I wouldn't. Some people just don't wanna take the risk, or just plain stock speeds are fine for them.

So which jerks voted yes?
Well overclocking would give you free performance, and who doesn't love free stuff. However do you want to spend time and money to get it working properly? All up to you. I'll overclock as much as I can, as much as I'm willing to, since I run Folding@Home whenever the computer is on.

Re: will you call me a poser if i dont OC?
Nah, yer good to go. I haven't OC'd anything since a Barton core, and that's been a few years now. On my current rig I went the water cooling route to get my temps under control and get the system stable. OC or not, it's your rig. I certainly at least encourage trying it out sometime - just to add to the list of "I've done..." experiences.

You can try OC'ing your video card first, as it's much easier. Then maybe your RAM, than lastly your CPU. Just read a bit to gain some info from here (LR), and on the web before you OC.

Re: will you call me a poser if i dont OC?
It's safer and usually less expensive if you really screw up to overclock your CPU rather than your GPU. The combo of GPU overclock and Brothers in Arms killed my 9800 Pro. That was a lot more expensive to replace than my CPU at the time.
Re: will you call me a poser if i dont OC?
There's no reason to be considered a poser. Heck, I've built dozens of systems and serviced hundreds or maybe thousands, but the rig I have at home is very modest with some seriously aging parts. It's really not much to look at. If any rig could attract that kind of prejudgment, it would be mine. But that's a form of silliness I've never witnessed.
Re: will you call me a poser if i dont OC?
Most of my friends don't overclock their systems at all. They think I'm crazy when I tell them about my overclocks.
Re: will you call me a poser if i dont OC?
youre not a poser for not overclocking expensive equipment and possibly shortening the lifespan of it... unless you have all the money in the world to blow.. in which case, why the f not?
