HDA Digital X-Mystique 7.1 Gold Sound Card

Post by jtm55 »

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have this SoundCard? From what I read at this site http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=Arti ... &arc_id=29 Creative may be in for some competition.

Tell me what you Guys think.

The digital features are overrated.

If you're using it with normal audio, it just converts the analog streams to Dolby Digital, passes it through to the reciever, where it's converted to analog again, so you don't get any advantage...

If you're using SPDIF to pass through audio from DVDs to a reciever, there's no conversion, and little advantage over using good analog cables.
The only real advantage in using the digital connections is that you have less cables if you already have a set of speakers with digital plug-ins (Logitech series)

It's a great soundcard though, I just get annoyed with the hype about Digital sound. :)

Actually the digital out is important to people using home theathre amplifiers. I'am going to buy one because since I updated my computer to amd64, nf4 I miss my soundstorm...
The optical out supports only stereo in most cards. I did a bit of searching in the creative website and found that none of their products really output dolby digital or pcm into optical output.

Please correct me if I'am wrong.
I don't know anything...

Hi Guys,

You are correct. the Mystique is able to output 7.1 using Home Theater & or Standard Speakers. I thought that folk would be more excited about this, however it appears that's not the case. It's my understanding that the Home Theater Enthusiast are quite excited. In addition, I believe that none of Creatives cards have this ability.

Yes, if you're using a good home theatre setup, the digital out is nice, but the majority of people who get this card will be getting it for the hyped *digital* function, so that they can hook it up to their "digital" Logitech Z-680 or Z-5500, which offers absolutely no benefits over the standard analog connections.
