Hey, so I might want to OC my 4850 a bit, but not by a lot. It's at stock speed right now (625/993), I'm planning to bring it up to 650/1000. Is that good? HIS's dual slot 4850 was clocked at that so...

My card runs fairly warm right now (Idles at about 80 degrees Celsius and just a bit warmer during load). The fan speed is on auto, and it doesn't seem to go higher than 30% on idle. Should I put it on manual? If I do, what speed should I put it on during: Idle/load? (40%/60% ?.....50%/50%?)

If I do, what speed should I put it on during: Idle/load? (40%/60% ?.....50%/50%?)

I've also got the Sapphire 4850, mine runs very good at 700 and 1100, with auto fan speed at 99 to 102 degrees Celsius the fan is at 50 % - 60 %, you can spin up the fan to 100 %, but that is freakin' loud at 10 000 rpm, this gets it down to max of 90 degrees (ambient temperatur is 27 degrees Celsuis).
Turn up the fan speed to 60 % or higher at 700/1100 you'll need 60 % so that it doesn't burn.
These cards are built to last, I got this card since the month it was released and never had a problem.

I'd run the fan as high as you can put up with... The cooler the longer lasting the part will be and you will get better overclocks from it.

cool, thanks. I might buy a case fan or 2 to cool down the 4850/hard drive and the area above the card.

I got mine to run at 650/1000 no problems. Might leave it at that for a while as my PSU is only 430W...ill upgrade to a 450W or 500W later on. Oh yeah, it's running at 55 degrees (+/- 1 or 2) with fan speed at 50% [idle]

Thanks for the tip. I got it to run at 650/1000, but I know I can go higher...but my PSU is only 430W. Ill clock it up a bit after i upgrade my PSU. I got it to run a 55 (+/- 1 to 2) degrees celsius on idle with 50% fan speed. Is that okay?

I ran mine at 60% when I was still using the stock fan, but have put it under water since then. I think I might have damaged something on the card due to high heat for the first few months I had it. Watch the heat with these cards. If you are around 50oC then you're probably doing okay. Anything to help the airflow would be recommended with the 4850.

Why do you need a better power supply? According to your sig the unit you have is more than adequate to run your rig overclocked just fine.
