VRAM is 1.9GB? even with a 512MB 4850??

Post by lordvic »

Did I not disable the onboard graphcis properly? I used "canyourunit" and it says i have 1.9GB of Video Memory. In the video adapter in 'Device Manager' it only shows my 4800 card. Also, it says I have 3.2GB or RAM (I have 4GB installed)...i know 32-bit only recgonizes 3.5GB or something so..where's my other 0.3GB?
I :
-'Uninstalled' the drivers for the onboard.
-Plugged the card in
-Onboard disappeared from 'Video adapter ---------------------There was the "Disable" option before I clicked "Uninstall", but it was gone after that..
-System found new hardware, but I needed the drivers
-Downloaded the catalyst package from AMD/ATI website.
-Everythings all good. Shows up on the welcome screen (4800 series, in 'Device Manager', Windows Index score or w/e goes up)

Oh yeah BTW, when i turn on my computer is has something like.... *blah* blah* CMOS update.............................Success. before it goes to the Vista "sliding bars" loading screen.

Haven't updated my BIOS so I don't know it that has something to do with it.

WEIRD :(

I seem to remember 32-bit Windows only seeing around 3.2GB honestly..and as far as the Video card ram reading, I think it's pulling the page file usages into that too. I have 1GB video ram..that canyourunit site shows me using 3.7GB. my page file is at 2591MB..2591 + 1024 = 3615..close enough to 3.7..It's not the first time I've ever seen that or heard of that reading for a Video card. I might be wrong.. I can't remember off the top of my head the exact reason

well, i have a 2x2 kit and it only registers as 3GB even, under 32bit XP Pro, as for updating DMI pool, mine shows that 90% of the time, if not all the time...
