Lucid -Ati and Nvidia together

Hey there,

just found this and thought it was quite interesting. There will be a MSI P55 Motherboard with a Hydra Chip by Lucid, which is supposed to be able to bring Multi-GPU systems to 100% scalability.
Looks like the Hydra chip will let GPUs render not only parts of the frame as it is now, but uses Multisystems as one GPU and lets every gpu render different objects of the frame.
And even ATI and NVIDIA are supposed to work well together.

If this really works I might get my first MultiGpuSystem :)

Hmm. Interesting concept, but honestly, I don't feel that multi-gpu is really where it should be at. And mixing red and green just sounds like a recipe for disaster in the software level if it gets through the hardware level.

similar perspective here, having dual cards, but if they live up to the claim of 100% scalability on either camp, i'm ecstatic

I'm all for this if it actually works as advertised and is not too expensive to implement.

I think its a great idea as well. It would offer you so much more flexibility for future upgrades.

Wow, it's funny how neither Nvidia or ATI themselves were able to do this for their own products.

I highly doubt it's because they weren't able to. I don't think 2 rivals will allow their products to work together. The real kick in the ass will be if it's more scalable than their own Crossfire/SLI shindig

I think he was refering to the fact that both GPUs have to be the same in either Crossfire or SLI.

Think it would be kinda neat especially for someone that has had two or more systems floating around with mis-match GPUs in the closet. :)

while it would be decent to be able to mix n' match your gpus it is no doubt going to be hell for compatibility.. even mixing two video cards, say for example, by nvidia from 2 generations apart (8800 & 6800) seems like it would be a glitchy nightmare just because of the different capabilities of the cards & their internal differences in basic architecture.

just a thought...
