BSOD's?

A friend of mine built a system last year using an ASUS Striker II Formula, Q6600, 8800GTX, 2 Seagate 500G HDD's, and 2 Lite-On DVD-RW's.
The original build did not go well, RAID setup failed multiple times, finally set it up on a single drive. This was successful but real soon developed BSOD's when ejecting a disc from either drive. It also BSOD'd at some other times but rarely!
After multiple times with ASUS support he RMA'd the Mobo, since its an enthusiast board they sent him one immediately! He put it together again and is experiencing the exact same problems! No RAID, BSOD's.
We updated the Video drivers and still the same, he updated the board drivers and it BSOD'd as soon as the install was complete! We are trying everything including disconnecting one HDD and disconnecting one DVD-rw.
When it BSOD's it gives a Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal error
Does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem?
right now we are getting rdy to install a BETA set of chipset drivers to see what happens!

Are you 100% sure that it is the board?
Check all of the other hardware in another sytem (on another mobo) and see if it gives you the same BSODs.

run the usual stress tests on each part i'd say, Memtest 86+ and OCCT

When it BSOD's it gives a Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal error
As you would imagine that error is because of a driver. Update every driver you can in his build. If you still get the error try to get the actual fault code (i.e. 0x0000000). From the sound of it though it seems like the chipset drivers are the ones not playing nice.

Does this happen when it's awakened for sleep mode.

We installed the latest chipset drivers (beta) and that seems to have fixed the BSOD's!
We did not try to reinstall windows in a RAID setup and at this point I'm not sure he's going to do that!
Over the next couple days he plans on seeing how it runs and as suggested run some test/stress programs.
Also, he needs to connect the DVD-rw and 2nd HD back up and see how they act.
I appreciate all the help!
Thanx Guys!

installing the right drivers is crucial when it comes to RAID

That explains a lot! I was pretty sure we were doing the setup correctly but it failed everytime!
With this new set of drivers everything is going according to plan!
I've run tests on memory, HD, and the video card. Plus he's running Prime95 at the moment and it has been running for over 12hrs with 0 errors.
We're talking about it but havent decided yet but we may start over from scratch and try the new drivers to set up the RAID!?!
He's flip flopping, he's not sure he wants to go through the whole process again and have it fail and lose all the work we've done over the last 4-5 days!
Again Thanx for the help!

UPDATE: Thankful we did not decide to start over yet!
Turns out it wasnt the chipset drivers after all.
When we finally felt everything was in good shape we connected the DVD drive backup and burned a cpl CD's & DVD's , workied great! So next was to reconnect the 2nd HD. After that things just went downhill and fast! It took 3 tries to get the system to boot, once it did, it started the BSOD's under the same conditions and when we tried to format/partition the drive windows didnt recognize the drive. After repeated tries the BIOS would only see the drive intermittently! The next logical thing to do was disconnect the drive to see what happens and the system has been running fine ever since!
Using Seagate tools we tested this drive and the drive with the OS. The OS drive passed and the 2nd drive failed the first test and then wouldnt even run any more tests! Needless to say Seagate is sending a new drive, if it works we will try to install the original chipset drivers. If they work, we will probably start over and set up the RAID.
First time I ever heard of a bad HD that would fubar the whole system that was not the primary drive!

Try a different SATA cable with the second HDD. I've had blue screens on a system because my IDE cable was bad (that was a "B" to track that problem down).

We've already tried different cables(power & data) even tried switching connections at the mobo.
The HD failed and/or screwed up the system everytime! Also spent quite a bit if time on the phone with Seagate and they agree.....
It's Toast!

Good deal that you guys figured it out, not that it's broke. I've had a couple Seagate's just up and die on my with no click of death or anything that resembles that the drive was failing. Only Seagate product I own now is the 160GB drive that came in my Eee PC.

This is the first Seagate I personally know that failed.
I'm not sure what the problem is with it but it does spin up, so I would figure mechanically its ok!?!
I never heard the click of death out of it!
My friend paid the $20 so Seagate would send him a new drive immediately!
It should be here in a day or so! He's talking like he wants to attempt the RAID!
Looks like I know what I'll be doing next weekend!

Feeling pretty confident with what he's learned, my friend attempted to set up the RAID last night.
The setup went off without a hitch Using the original drivers from the disc and the new HD!
He now understands why I like to build new computers any chance I get!

Building a new computer is a lot like foreplay. There is lots of anticipation and touching. Then it comes to a climax where you turn it on and it either responds or it doesn't.
