This is wierd. I can put a blank music CD into the drive and it askes me what I want to do. IF I select play music CD and ther is one in the drive it plays it. IF I select burn music to CD and there is a blank one in the drive it sends me to the Media player music library where I get an Unknown error. It says I dont have a CD burner and asks be to hit F5 to refresh. I do that and it still says unknown error. I just updated to Media player 10 from 9. Any ideas as to why this is?

personally, I wouldn't use the burning software that comes with Media Player, instead I would get Nero, so much simpler, and it reads most all of the newer drives; I think you're encountering a problem with Media Player in that it's executing commands improperly for CD's and/or it's not recognizing the drive. The least likely, though possible, is that it's a bad drive, and you may need to replace. If you have Windows XP, try burning data onto a CD with Windows cd burning software to test the drive.

yea, i have the exact same problem as u but im pretty sure that its a problem with the burner because i tried atleast 4 different programs and it doesnt work for either of the programs so im thinkin of buyin a new burner or gettin a genius to fix it.

Yep, WMP is probably pretty flaky when it comes to that sorta thing. I have been using Nero Express or whatever it's called and I have had zero problems with it, works great and super quick/easy to use. I'd say try and find a copy of it cheap on the internet. Checl

Nero is good for copying music CD's too, not so much for application CD's, but still a good thing to have. Very very simple interface

I've burned music CD's, Data CD's, Copied software CD's, copied Music CD's, and burned images with it and every time has been simple and error free (not counting the time it couldn't read a severely scratched disk). The only other app I've used is Roxio easy CD creator and nero is 500 times better than that Roxio "easy coaster creator".

Well, considering that Media Player was being used to attempt to burn a CD, and I know that it's crap, I believe it's in the software being used. Nero is much easier to use, and will tell you right away whether your burner is bad or not when you try to use it. It either won't recognize the drive, like media player, or will give errors when trying to burn. Also make sure the drive is installed correctly, because you gotta make sure everything is right (I build these things all the time and even I miss things from time to time).

There are times that you may need to update the drives firm ware depending on when you got it, how old the drive really is and what software you're using, it all plays a role in how well, or if the drive works at all.

didn't think of that Bio, yeah that could fix the problem, but personally, when the burner is dead, it's dead, and it's time for replacement; and buck, I know you're frustrated, but that's no way to talk to a person man, and I didn't see where you said you already tried Nero, so that's why I suggested it, that's all.

bummer the drive doesn't have any firmware updates as most do. Nero doesn't see my AOpen drive, but it did on my old drive. Not sure what causes it, but I fix the issue with a format and re-install.

Seems like lots of people have problems with this drive, not just you. You might want to check out the firmware and reinstall it, then try some of the fixes people in these groups tried.
