Hi. Can anyone tell me how to spot a fake cpu. They are doing the rounds on ebay and a few other sites at very low prices.
I know that some hard drive manufacturers let you check the serial number and can tell you how much is left on the warranty
so some sort of checking is available, i was wondering if that applied to cpus.
I recently purchased a flash memory stick and it read 16Gb, but actually only held 1Gb, so these things can be hacked into.
Can the same be done to cpus.
Thanks!!

Re: Cpu identification
you could probably find the numbers on the manufacturers website, intel has a spec finder page;

When buying anything (particularly on e-bay) follow the old axiom, "If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is."
Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the real universe is always one step beyond logic.
