Any chance that you guys could tell me what system processes can be stopped permanantly to increase available memory?

you could try using Game Booster, what it does is shut down un necessary apps/processes for when you game(most processes arent used in normal use anyway) it'll shut down about half your processes i'd say

but i disable the sidebar, don't have an EA game installed(pnkbstrA), disabled indexing, and for the most part i disable anything i don't think i'll use/have never heard of, but i think it works better for XP than win7 IMO

i have game booster and it only shuts down 2 processes. not sure which ones but it drops from 54 to 52 processes and frees up 50mb of memory  shame it can't do more

yeah, you need to go through your services and search for ones you won't use(via control panel or some windows app somewhere), i have forgotten how i did it, but i'll post when i figure out how again

Go to Start: Run: Msconfig and remove unnecessary services (check box to Hide all Microsoft services first) and start up items.

During most PC optimizations that I do, I remove at least 20-30 unnecessary entries.

you have Vista 64 bit running?
instead of msconfig in the run box type" services.msc" Check your services with one of the sites on the internet that explains what each one is and then decide if you want to rmove/disable it.

i would definitely turn of the searchindexer.....

Ya, most of what is in startup in completely unnecessary, and a lot of what is in services (non-ms) is equally unnecessary.

If you check a newly formatted XP PC, there will be no items in startup and few if any non-ms items in services. They are all added by third party programs.

That's nothing. I got 76 somehow...When I did a clean install of Windows 7 RC back over the summer, I was sitting at 40 processes since day 1.

well geo you have a TON of programs OPEN, and a TON of others installed with processes that run 24/7 like 2 pnkbstr's for EA games(useless entirely) and about 12 processes are specifically from Folding too

(i have 12 processes from F@H, with just a dualcore, and two gpu clients) 68 processes w/out gamebooster & w/F@H; 38 processes w/ game booster and without folding
