Google launches goo.gl

Google URL Shortener at
goo.gl is a service that takes long URLs and squeezes them into fewer characters to make a link that is easier to share, tweet, or email to friends. The core goals of this service are:
* Stability – ensuring that the service has very good uptime
* Security – protecting users from malware and phishing pages
* Speed – fast resolution of short URLs
Google URL Shortener is currently available for Google products and not for broader consumer use.
The Google privacy policy applies to the Google URL Shortener. Please note that Google may choose to publicly display aggregate and non-personally identifiable statistics about particular shortened links, such as the number of end user clicks.

i don't see google getting into PC hardware.
video cards... You are talking billions of dollars, thousands of workers and years... Look at Intel... They can't even get into it easily.

At the same time if you aren't trying to get into different things and keep your business moving along you end up stagnant. I don't blame them, but yeah, they seem to be getting into everything.

At least Google is getting some competition now with Microsoft's Bing. This competition should get interesting over time.

I use bing for the sole reason that it isn't google. I'm not comfortable with one company monopolizing the whole internet. Except of course for image search, because the bing filter is rubbish.
