i have had this code for a while and it's stopping me from updating windows. and since this problem my anti-virus has been working overtime. still keeping me safe but is there a way of sorting this out and i have done the command root %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL and everything round that but still will not work?

Any help would be much apprecated thanks!!!

turn UAC off and try regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll - REBOOT, then see if it works

if that doesnt work - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/940520

also try in safe mode with networking and see if that helps.

Let me know if that works - one of those should fix it for you.

already tried all this but did it agian to see if that works and still it doesn't work. thanks for the help anyway!

wow - thats strange

ok, find someone running vista 64 and delete your dll file and replace it with a new one - dont know if that would work or not though. I actually have it for you if you want - PM me your email addy as it is almost 1mb zipped, and I will send it.

Next step would be to try doing a REPAIR installation with your original windows disc, but then you would have to get all the updates for windows again and you might have some errors till you get all the updates installed.

did you run a scan for a rootkit and malware?

Well like Darkstar said - you can try and run malwarebytes or similar but repairing the windows install will be the best solution at this point. It isnt a complete reinstall, but it will take you an hour or 2. I think it is WELL worth it to be able to get updates again!

I figured you would already have anti-virus and malware protection installed...??

Finally got it all to work by having to reinstall vista well update using the CD and after the update was done i found out i had 72 important updates of 400mb to download and install so at least i know my my pc is up and running well again. this was all because of that one file called wuaueng.dll file error/corruption. thx for you help guys

repair install thingy works every time - just sux Windows isnt a bit more stable!
