Riddle Me This

If I go to overclock my Phenom X3 in the BIOS by even 1Mhz it refuses to POST. Without any adjustments in the BIOS I can open Foxconn's Fox One application and I can crank the FSB up to 225Mhz. The computer is rock solid and runs just fine. So my question is why is the BIOS a b***h and a Windows application works?

Yep came out a few weeks ago. This board has done this since I bought it. I just tried to OC in the BIOS and it gave me the usual error.

That sucks. I get sort of the same problem here, except that the software doesn't work either, although it has in the past.

That is confusing indeed. I'm thinking that the software doesn't overclock in the exact same manor that the bios does. We all know that changing identical values in the exact same way would produce identical results. Increasing the FSB changes a whole host of other values, so try taking a closer look at the values following each overclock and look for discrepancies.

Do a search to see if anyone else with your board has the same problem. Based on your findings you may have either a faulty board or faulty bios. Have you tried reverting to an older bios revision?

Regardless though, it sucks. The only way I like to overclock is in the bios. I've never liked software overclocking. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

This board has done this since I got it last March. I've updated the BIOS 3 or 4 times and still have the issue. I've tried lowering the HTT, RAM divider, upping voltages but it refuses to POST. I start the Windows based app and it works fine.

I have the same problem  my siggy tells you the board i'm using. i can overclock the FSB from 333 to 375 max this board lets me do is 400  but i cant 'using the bios' overclock above 375 or it wont POST :-k It will just freeze just beofre the login page. so max clock is 3562mhz from 3166mhz. tried to use overclocking software and it works fine for bout 10 mins then freezes on me agian and then wont POST on reset #-o

have you tried knocking down the multiplier? on my 1333MHz board i have it at 400MHz FSB(CPU is 266 stock! and with a $20 air cooler) because i dropped the multi by .5(to 9) but thats also at a pretty steep 1.45v but temps are fine for me(with some ghettomod cooling on the northbridge)

After a brief Google session it seems that this board doesn't clock in the BIOS but does with the Foxconn software. From everything I know this is completely against the grain of overclocking. Every time I've ever played with Gigabyte's Easy Tune it was a disaster. Open up the BIOS and all was well. The board is stable but this will be the last Foxconn I buy. I've tried enough brands to know that ASUS or Gigabyte is the way to go.

i have tried that skier m8 and nothing still dont work. guess i'm stuck with the highest clock of 3.562ghz. Major i didn't realise you had a foxconn. there not bad boards but they are worse at overclock than mine. it's a good job i found out before i ended up getting this pc or i to would of had a foxconn
