Boot problem

Ok so some of you know i was putting together my new machine today.
Well first prob i had was power wasnt coming on so my brother decided to mess around with the mobo a bit and may have removed the clrtc1 jumper.
Now it will only boot for 20 seconds then the power shuts itself off.
If i try with my new hard drive it gives me a message saying "wrong cmos settings or something"
With the old hard drive it just shuts down after 20 seconds.
Can any of you guys help ?
Thanks

post the system specs, and make sure you have the CLTR jumper set the right way

Clear the CMOS... make sure ALL the power hearders are plugged in... check and make sure the 4-pin 12V ATX header is installed. Also double check the processor is seated correctly.. enter the bios and look at the system temps to check that. If you have a volt meter check your 5v and 12v rails to make sure the PSU is good & strong.
Like Rich stated above make sure the jumper is on the correct side... if you don't know try both or look in the manual.

Did you re-seat your cpu?
also use 1 stick of ram, actually remove cpu and ram, then re-seat
Does the pc boot past the bios screen?
Did you check your temps in the bios as Apoptosis said?
(press "delete" to enter, goto power menu then hardware monitoring)
Sound like the cpu is getting too toasty and powering off for safety...

Gonna install my drivers for my card etc now then i will prob try overcloxk the cpu tomorrow.
The cpu temp is at a nice 34C idle which is far better than the 50 it used to be.
Thanks again guys you rock

Be careful overclocking. i still havent mastered it and feel comfortable running at stock.

Just remember Soliex, if you need any help, these guys are pretty much guru's of OC'ing. There's definitely a lot involved with it, including upgrading critical hardware to keep it cool. The major thing to remember as well (and this only applies if you have a post week 39 Athlon XP) is that some of the Athlon XP processors have their multipliers locked, and can't be overclocked without jumping out the bridges on the CPU with a fine bit of silver paint (as it is fairly conductive and can jump the bridges). Now, as for you Venge, a Prescott can be OC'd, however, they are infamous for overheating when pushed too far (manufacturing process issue I think, not sure), so be careful to have a really good HSF and some Arctic Silver 5 on hand, and you can keep that Prescott running at 34C even overclocked (I've heard stories from other "PC abusers" about their good luck with keeping the temps down with the right hardware).

lol, I felt the same way when I first came into this room myself when I had a problem with a customer unit stuck in reboot. I asked a lot of questions myself, they were patient, so I don't see them being any different with you man (they're not like other forums where they flame you when they get impatient with you, personally this is the best damn forum on the web for this field). I don't know a whole lot, but I am willing to help you with that I do know

Yup i agree
Ive posted alot of questions in here so far and not one has gone unanswered.
I have some arctic silver on the cpu and a zalman heatsink/fan
Its running at around 30C now and about 40 when playing the likes of BF2
Considering i dont do much else on the PC other than games and the net i dont think the heat will be that much of a prob.
Just waiting to sort out some other stuff in the bios etc before i try to overclock.

what kind of case do you have? do you have aftermarket cooling on your vid card? I ask these questions because 1. you may be able to mod your case sorta like gvblake is doing and place dual 40mm exhaust fans next to the expansion cards, drawing the heat affected area away from the processor and sending it out the back. Also, a good aftermarket VGA cooler is key for gaming because you can further prevent heat from reaching the hot area near the CPU, not to mention all this will lower system temps too. Remember: heat is ever your enemy, and any means to remove it is a good thing (I plan on getting the latest NV silencer for the 6800GT I'll be getting, unless I decide to go with MSI's 6800GT, who already has something similar to it with the card).

Well i have the HIS x800xl turbo which has the iceqII fitted to it which vents the heat out through a pci slot in the case.
I also have a 120mm sitting at the back of the case which extracts all the heat coming from the cpu's heatsink.
Then i have a 40mm fan on top and a 40mm fan on the side for the hard drive bays.
As soon as i stop playing bf2 the temp drops about 10C in about 2 minutes which is decent.
I will see if i can get a pic of the inside 2moro
