Re: GPU temps
My Sapphire Radeon HD4870 is overclocked to 790MHz core and 950MHz Memory, it idles at about 49/50c core and 55c memory. On load it peaks about where you peak at, maybe just a smidge hotter.

Re: GPU temps
Looks pretty normal to me; considering that it's slightly overclocked...but it's an IceQ version so I think it should be running cooler. You might be able to lower the temps down a bit by cleaning the card a bit with compressed air (if you haven't cleaned it much in the past couple months or so).artupato wrote:HIS HD 4870 Iceq 4 + turbo

My 4850 was lower 10c after removing small clumps of dust inside the copper heatsink, so see if that helps.

Re: GPU temps
You can do that and take the whole cooler/heatsink off, but you would then need to reapply the thermal compound. Taking your 4870 out of your computer case, wipe off the dust that are on the fan's fins (I find "Q-tips" very useful for cleaning fins), blow some compresed air on the visible copper heatsink, and pretty much the whole card in general. Clean the cooler (through the GPU fan, into the copper heatsink/fins, and out the back of the dual slot); usually there's quite a bit of dust in there since the air is sucked in and blown through it, and out the back.artupato wrote:you are right, i havent cleaned it yet for almost 3months. i only cleaned it once but did not attempt to open it. i better check the manual. is it ok to open the case/cover?lordvic wrote:Looks pretty normal to me; considering that it's slightly overclocked...but it's an IceQ version so I think it should be running cooler. Cleaning the inside of your case would probably lower temperatures; dust built up on the case fans, on the CPU heatsink, etc.
*It's a good idea to do this outside and not indoors.
