clone a Hard Drive.

ok I have never had the need to do this before so I am wondering if it can be. I have a 250gb and a 1Tb in my current computer. I have someone who wants to buy my current computer less the 1TB hard drive. What I am wondering is can I clone the 250gb hard drive onto the 1TB hard drive so I dont have to reinstall a bunch of programs and OS again.

Do I need to make a partition on the 1TB hard drive to fit the 250gb? Can I keep all my data on the 1TB hard drive?

If this can be done are there any free programs that can do this.. or what program would work best for this. Thanks

If you've already got data on the 1TB one it gets a bit tricky.

I'd probably make a 250GB partition on the 1TB drive, using something like gparted.

Then try and clone the 250GB drive to that new partition.

I've had great success with using clonezilla in the past, but I'm not sure if it can clone partitions separately rather than whole drives (in which case it would lose the rest of your 1TB data).

Check out the documentation to see if it does what you need, beacuse I'm feeling lazy right now :P

finally used this clonezilla today. My brother just got a bigger hard drive - (he was using 80Gb) cloned the old drive to a 1.5TB drive- put in the new drive removed the old one and its up in running... went flawlessly.
Thanks Dan
